Need some suggestions for a Havoc Staff

I bought a vintage Havoc Staff on Ebay that was chewed up on the end, but the head is okay. I plan to cut off the head, dremmel it out, and put it on a longer staff to use with my MOTUC/DC Universe 2-pack Skeletor. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to use for the staff? I'd like to have my ducks in a row before I confuse the poor people at Hobby Lobby any more than I have to!

Wooden dowel. Or small plastic tubing. Both can be found at the hardware store and made as long as you wish.

You'd probably want a small wooden dowel, though you may get away with using a bamboo skewer.

Yeah, I could probably Sharpie it purple easy enogh if it's wood. That won't bleed off onto my figure.
