At what point in spending all the time and gas running to TRU (which, by its very nature, will attract action figure scalpers, collectors AND speculators) does it get MORE expensive looking than spending shipping cost? I didn't mean to come off as aggressive as I did, but it DOES get frustrating to see people bitch and moan when a LOT of this stuff IS readily available. Maybe not for retail, but for all the resources spent hunting (assuming you even have a TRU within reasonable driving distance, which I don't), I really think a LOT of you would end up saving in the long run by simply ordering some of this stuff online. With a major brand revision hitting now (or soon), I really don't see TRU stocking this wave THAT heavily, and I think with all the collector hype around it, $75 for a set of 6 (with stuff you could trade or sell) doesn't look that bad

I agree. Hasbro should sell everything online not just some of their stuff, but the hot stuff sells out anyway. LOL!

Even then, for all the effort a lot of you appear to be putting into finding this wave, it DOES get to a point when you say "enough is enough" and just spend the extra money to get the two figures you want from the wave via a online source?

While HTF figures are a reality it seems lately Hasbro is making a habit of such things. The reality is that Hasbro should understand the market better and plan accordingly. This wave made it very clear that they do not understand thier market. Through the comic packs they have claimed that Expanded universe does not sell and yet never look at the fact that poor character selection in the comic packs (Especially the Wal-Mart exclusives which are primarly what Hasbro has spoken of in Q&A's) drove massive levels of pegwarming (Oh and a price hike to boot), Then they apply that outcome to the Legacy line and the EU set, which is where all this mess is born in, and yet do not understand the characters in this wave are in much higher demand than the aforementioned Comic pack figures. It's a logic that boggles the mind. Even still the worst part is the scalping being done by online retailers, they have done this for years and we just accept it, problem is to get what you want you have to bend to it. But $75 works out to 12.5 a figure, for figures that are retailing for 7.99 (or $4.99 if you snag them in the TRU sale). It's no wonder fans are frustrated. |

(And I've yet to see Hasbro claim the EU doesn't sell, in fact, Bastilla Shan is due in ANOTHER EU wave within the next year. But, they HAVE said that the collector sales have dropped off and that Clone Wars is, frankly, more popular and drives more sales at this current time). This seems to happy every few years to one major collector brand or another: a kid centric approach succeeds and collectors get all pissy when Hasbro goes to where the money is. Right now, Clone Wars is still very popular and sells very well. Legacy? Not so much, which is largely the reason behind the switch to the Neo-Vintage line in the fall (to spruce up collector sales by doing something which has succeeded before: nostalgia and key characters). Legacy just didn't do the sales everyone wanted, which is the reason why the last wave became a TRU/online exclusive. Better that than Hasbro up and canning the wave, or pushing into even more limited exclusivity of a ONE store exclusive or con exclusive.

I think Hasbro DOES understand the market, the problem is, that market is more interested in Clone Wars or guys who were a major part of the movies, not niche collector stuff like this wave and the comic packs (in my own experience, the fast selling figures in Legacy were the core characters like Han or Luke Skywalker, the shelfwarmers were typically the collector centric characters, granted this was just my region).

I'm sure we'll see more EU figures, but we just need to be patient. It's the same with this last BAD wave. Hasbro wouldn't have invested the money in all these new sculpts without having a plan to reuse/re-release them. If I'm wrong it's no real big deal to me. I would have liked to have had them, but it's not like I haven't been denied something I wanted in the past before. I'll survive. =) |
