So I have never really started a conversation thread, so I'm taking a crack at it(sorry if it has been a thousand times over). I have always been curious to know about the so-called Holy Grails of other toylines that people collect, especially from the 80s, such as MOTU or Star Wars. What are the very hard to find items that few people have and if you do have them, show a pic!

I'd love to have the vintage Lando unproduced large size ESB figure.
The Willie and Short Round LJN Temple Of Doom figures are some others I'd love to own. |

I think Eternia Playset from MOTU and the Hyve playset from Sectaurs are akin to having a MIB Defiant
However I think the playset from Rock Lords that was shown in toy ads is the rarest of them all (never produced) There's also a lab playset from Ghostbusters that was never released |

Not counting unreleased stuff...
Marvel Legends- Deadpool is crazy expensive due to a shorter run of the wave and exploding in popularity later on. Juggernaut and Man Thing have a similar deal, WalMart Thor and Ares too. DCUC- Gentleman Ghost causes me much distress! Legends and DCUC both have waves or key characters needed for BAFs. The variants aren't diffucult for DC, and have really cooled down for Legends. Transformers-Grand Maximus. I've got Fort Max and Brave Max...but this guy is just Maximus..er. And Japanese Some other G1 stuff isn't as crazy since the reissues started. GodBomber isn't a holy grail from Japan now that he could be bought at Toys R Us. Still, there are still too many later year Japanese only releases to name. Vintage Star Wars - plastic cape Jawa, blue Snaggletooth, Yakface. Whatever large playset with tons of pieces from even the shorter lived lines tends to be the grail. Captain Power, Sectaurs. I'm rambling here, I'd like to see which non large, non international, non limited-release-due-to-cancellation items people come up with. |

Wow, My Little Pony continues to surprise me. It's not that surprising that they are almost exactly like us, and don't just talk about rainbows and brush their ponies' hair, as you might initially think. I'v always loved that they refer to vintage as "G1" just like Transformers fans. Doesn't work with Joes so well.
I'm not surprised that the U.S. Ponies sell loose for under $10 each. It's not like limbs break or they tended to include more than a brush. I'm astounded that a mail away 80s Pony called Rapunzel, basically a repaint with long hair, is going for $850 right now. Loose, no box or baggy. That beats out tons of action figure grails, considering the huge gap in price between it and the rest of the very similar toys in the collection. The Defiant was $100 at retail, this thing would have been $4 at a store. Huge playsets are also priced based on tons of brittle accessories needed to make it complete and functional. A Cobra Mortal was released in a smaller, distant market, and its paint and plastic is extremely vulnerable. Plus, I assume we kicked our toys asses more. That's a pricey pony. |
