I've got to agree with 90s Marvel stuff. Who'd think that they would be so horrible a few years later? The early, worst looking stuff is probably what gave me the most joy, it wad just so awesome that it existed in stores!
Gonna throw one out there that I'm not guilty of buying, but lots of people are. Those Star Wars bendy figures that came out when Star Wars fever was hitting, but before Hasbro started making actual toys. Same goes with the tons of random junk that came out just before Episode I. I regret the bulk of my 12" Star Wars. It exists in this limbo where the Sideshow stuff makes it look terrible, so I can't stand looking at it, reminding me of what I can't afford. I regret stressing over the exclusives back then too. |

Both. The only Japanese ones I have are the 1st RX-78 and 1st GM. The figures got exponentially better by the time the line died in the US, but I learned that I preferred ABS over PVC as I got older.

VVV wave 1 Storm Shadow - LACKED full articulation because of the wonky action attack gimmick. Not cool. A gi joe without full articulation is like a Spiderman with 4 points of articulation; it just ain't right. TRU Exclusive VVV Hydrofoil boat - The only redeeming things were the figures, but the boat itself...good LORD! RARELY do I EVER have bad quality GI Joe items, but THIS one took the cake. It's just bad. Not all of the holes for the pegs were drilled in. Fell apart like no other. Parts did not fit right. Even on clearance I think I made a mistake for this one. Spytroops Sky Sweeper - Bought because it was a new GI Joe jet, thought I would like it, grew to dislike it. Looks like an SD F-117. VERY small. Only redeeming factor is that it's built like a brick. If I threw it like a football during a Super Bowl play, I think it would survive even if it crashed into the bleachers. If it were 3-4X larger, sleek, slender and in proportion(doesn't need to be exact scale), then I'd love it. VVV Thunderwing - Overjoyed at 1st, grew to dislike it. Big body, small wings. 'nuff said. Redeeming qualities are it's near sheer indestructability. If I threw it down a chimney for Christmas it might still be good to go. Oh yeah, painted canopy frames were a good touch and Slipstream that was with it kicked ass. Best "new sculpt" pilot figure. As a matter of fact, last best pilot helmet that Hasbro sculpted too. BBI Combat Command A-10 - I was seemingly in love with this thing, then months later, no. BIG body with weird cockpit sculpt and very small vertical stabilizers. The PTE A-10 is the only A-10 I would pick up for my joes aside from Rattlers and Tiger Rats folks. Don't stray from those unless someone miraculously makes a 1/18 A-10. BBI Combat Command HIND - OH SHIT A HIND! Yeah that's what I thought too. Now, no. So out of scale that only 1 person can fit in the cockpit. See if the canopy was with a single bubble rather than dual bubble, I wouldn't mind it so much. Overly kiddified. Overall, a NAC in Russian camo is better. 21st Century 32X XD F4U Corsair - This was one fragile piece of work. The mold itself was great but it's asking to be broken. Bear in mind I was pretty careful with it too. The wing folding mechanism was easy to fold, but hard to keep level and attached when unfolded. Not cool. Landing gear broke because it got stuck in the well. Quality was so bad that I threw it in the trash after the wings broke or something(forgot what happened), and never looked back. |
