i just picked up my first AMP suit today!
i wasn't aware there was a variant though. i noticed that one of the boxes was different from any other AMP suit i've seen, but wasn't sure what to make of it. i opened the box up to find it was colored blue, but with a lot more yellow, lime and white paint apps from the pictures i've seen of them. but what really upset me (at first) was that there was no weapon with it!!! the box said it uses shoulder mounted flamethrowers, but all i saw were tanks molded into the back of the shoulders.... bummer. but, instead of brooding, i realized this a great opportunity for me to do some customizing! i dug through my boxes of old figures i've collect through the years, and was able to manufacture an under-slung flamthrower that connected to the tanks on his right arm. i used a mini-gun from a 6" War Machine Legends figure, and mounted it on his left shoulder, connecting it to the tank on the right arm with a ammo belt! i was going to make it a Joe's mech due to the lighter coloring, but thought that GI Joe wouldn't use such a killing machine in a jungle (note: i always intended the AMP suit to be in the Jungle battles no matter which i got). GI Joe would worry too much about knocking over the trees, and burning endangered species. so, while noticing the lime paint apps, i had a revelation: Swamp Viper! Copperhead is no fun to hang out with, so why not give the guy a better job than riding bitch for him? what a great purchase! edit: as much as i loved the purchase of this guy, so much so that i'm going to buy the "regular" edition of him as well, i can't help feel kinda pissed that i wasted $20 for the Cobra Deviant. the Deviant isn't bad really, and he comes with a pretty cool figure, it's just that i got an AMP suit for half the price, and it's just so much better than the Deviant.... Mattel did a great job with most of the AVATAR line...but they were overpriced. Their mechs were very cool, but I have to disagree that they are better than the POC mechs. More realistic looking yes, but from a toy line perspective I think POC's are better. Plus don't forget these were left over Robot Rebellion items from 5+ years ago that are now finally getting used. Not bad for a 5 year old toy.
