I was at Rummage-a-Rama here in WI over the weekend. I picked up a few vintage pieces.(non Joe stuff) Anyway, there was a vendor there who had some loose boxed Star Wars and He-man stuff and a bunch of others. They wanted $90 for a loose boxed Dagobah, $50 for a loose boxed Battle Ram and so forth. To top it off they would not come down in price. I went the next day. Guess what unless they had multiples of everything nothing sold. Not a single piece. Why do people always think they are going to get top dollar for their stuff? If the prices were reasonable I would have bought a few pieces. Nowadays with the internet people are not stupid they can go online and find out how much stuff is. Usually they can go online right then and there and see (I know I go online and check prices at shows with my Blackberry) People know if they do a little digging they can find what they are looking for for cheap. Dont know if this was coherent or just rambling but had to vent.

I blame ebay and people being stupid
Case in point: 2 days ago I went around to a bunch of thrift stores. One had a Titanium Megatron figure still in the package (not the War Within version, This was the purple and grey tank) They had it priced at $19 I thought that was a little high considering it's a thrift store and they had old TV's right next to it for $3-$5. This toy was apparently worth 4 televisions! Now what really set me off was that they had a printed out ebay page taped to the top of the box. The auction was a BIN for $40. This seemed to indicate they were saying "It's worth $40 and we're being nice enough to sell it for half that" My problem is that people will go on ebay and see BIN auctions (That aren't selling) and think that's how much the item is worth. Had the thrift store looked at completed auctions they'd see that the figure sells for $10-$20 So they had the price right, I just was pissed they were trying to say it was such a great deal. |

I see that at Goodwill all the time. I even asked a worker there and they actually do go online before they price stuff. There are some thrift stores around here who price stuff at a standard rate. I have picked many G1 Transformers for .50 or .94 cents.

Many times they don't seem to really know what they are selling though. Last Friday I picked up the Ultimate Buzz Lightyear (that's clearancing at Target for $70) for $20, at the same store that day, I also got a Tyco Cliffhangers Glow in the dark race track (It was 99% complete and worked with the box) for only $3 (Ebay has them for $20-$85 completed auctions) |

Do these people even understand the meaning of the word thrift? It seems it would be thrifty not to buy things at such stores.

I think some of these stores forgot that they are thrift stores and now consider themselves antique stores. Stores do not seem to know what they have. They seem to always undercharge the items worth something and overcharge for crap that is worthless and no one wants.

There is a flea market near me that has one guy who has SW Episode I figures every week and he wants $12 a peice for the lesser known and $20 plus for the jedi's and main characters. Thing is that these can be bought down teh road at yard sales for $1-$2. Just goes to show.
