Adult collectibles aimed at an adult audience. The original likely had a much larger kid fanbase.

The orginal seres was kid orented (just watch it, its actually hard to watch today). Also don't forget this was during the gas crisis when 3 & 3/4" figs were all the rage due to costs. Also Star Wars had just come out with its toyline and was very successfull so every toyline was following thier lead (It was the late 1970's after all).
The new line was aimed at adults since the new show was adult orented and as such the scale was 6 inch instead. PS The orginal line never had any in scale ships anyway, the ships were actually smaller. Also it was the orginal BSG figuter that the kid stuck down his throught and chocked to death on effectivly ending spring loaded missle launchers until they were brought back (with the tension in the springs brought way down) in the 1990's, which made the 80's toys that much cooler cause there were none of those launchers. |

Not enough demand for the property.
The new Commander Adama 6" figure is beautiful and a jewel in my collection, so I feel your pain, my friend. |
