i saw the playmakers (4 inch) figures today at TRU. they seem to be around the same scale as the Joes, but they look... wide.

I have seen these too and I didn't think they looked good at all. I don't know if they tried to do too much articulation or what, but the figures just looked goofy to me.
I was surprised a little bit by the $8.99 price (I think) considering the 12" McFarlene figures are just $12.99 each

I think WM has the cheapest price so far. I've yet to find Ichiro with the baseball bat. It's the only one I wanted.

There are few threads on these already and it seems as if everyone has mixed reviews about them.
I'm a Yankees fan, so I really only plan on collecting figures of Yankee players as I've done with the larger McFarlane figures over the years. I feel that the figures do look a bit awkward as well. even the articulation is strange. I'm not a big fan of the knees or where the shoulder joint meets the chest. In any case I have picked up A-Rod and Jeter so far, but the are both the "batter" versions. I still haven't found the '"fielder" versions yet. I even found a Jeter figure that was packaged on an A-Rod card with the A-Rod inserts. The figure has Jeter's bat though, so I guess they just slipped the wrong tray into the wrong package. It looks like many of these will end up as peg warmers depending on where you live. Here in NYC the Yankee players are hard to come by, but all of the other players are in abundance. I imagine that up in Boston it's the same way with Red Sox players, and out in LA with Dodgers players.

I don't like the shoulder articulation (although I understand the need for it). I think it gives the figs that "wide" look I think they are ok (and a great source for baseball euquipment in joe scale) but not fantastic. I may grab a few down the road but not now.
MY WM has them at 6.99 I haven't seen them anywhere else. |

I bought some NFL last year, same as the baseball, just ok. I hate the footballs are stuck in the players hands, although the wideness of the fig can now be explained away by the shoulderpads (although many of them look like the pads are undersized).
