If the stand/display was simple enough (Base with Background) couldn't you put any 3-D accessory with it to dress it up? Boulders, Crates, etc.?

I voted for DIY. I like making 3D dioramas out of cardboard and other materials like art-rock / plastercloth, etc. I like dios that look kinda rough and ready for some reason.
I made this hut out of cardboard and the boulders out of scrunched-up newspaper covered with layers of plastercloth and painted with paint mixed with coarse sand to give a rocky effect. |

here's a pic that i recently took; the window was used by cutting some plastic at a appropriate size, soda machine and posters were printed out, and the pallets that were made with the previously mentioned sticks. i don't about the other machines but i know that you can get a pac-man and galaga arcade machine that are in scale on ebay. they were christmas ornaments that walgreens or wal-mart made.

Here's a question...
For all of you DIY guys and gals....what "materials" would help you to do a DIY dio? What's not available or in short supply? and YES...this is all part of my R&D for disPLAYabilitystands and YES they are still coming : )

For me, the diorama is a DIY creative process. I go to junky auctions where I can buy a year's worth of custom fodder for $5. Besides paint, there really isn't much else I buy.
Most of the dioramas I've seen here are DIY. Remember the guy that made something out of a vaccuum cleaner? All the cool displays I've seen are just neatly organized arrangements in large display cases.

I would like to build some dio background by myself but time is a problem for now.
To answer the question, i prefer big dio backgroung because i'm am an army builder and i have many figures to display so, i would take plastic deluxe buildable or large cardboard deluxe. If i have to choose one, i take the plastic one but both option is good to me. |
