Hasbro did not buy Toy Biz. Hasbro bought the rights to produce Marvel figures (which were pretty much the only thing Toy Biz was making). Toy Biz (now called Marvel Toys) started making the Legendary Comic Book figures after Marvel gave up the license, but they didn't do very well, so the line was scrapped, and as far as I know they are not making anything now.
Marvel never bought Toy Biz, the owner of Toy Biz (Avi Arad) bought Marvel, and combined the two companies. |

It was a stand alone company then Marvel bought toy biz in the early 90's. They went defunct when they restructured after bankruptcy in the late 90's.
One thing about Mego, did you know they originally passed on the original Star Wars toy license? After that snafu, they bought up rights to every sci-fi property they could get their hands on (Black Hole, Buck Rogers,Star Trek, etc.) but still only made it a few years after Kenner dominated the action figure aisle. I also heard that when Kenner took on Star Wars, there were some 12" figures (I had a Chewbacca) but the reason the line went to 3 inch was due to the gas crisis. The cost and shortage of Petroleum dictated this. Kenner realized they could make more figures if they were smaller and essentially get more for their money. It worked. Then I guess Mego tried to take a run at that with Micronauts (which were revolutionary in their own right) and that Eagle Force stuff... Either way, we shortly got the 1st wave of Joes shortly after. Bad for Mego...good for Star Wars and Joe fans |

I think the cost of petrolium did factor into the decision to make the Star Wars figures 3 3/4", but I think it was also because vehicles play such a big part in SW and they knew there was no way to make a 12" scaled Millinium Falcon.

I remember reading a story about how the 3 3/4" size was decided on. THe designers were in a meeting trying to figure out how to make the figures cheap and with vehicles, and one of them said why not make them this big and held his fingers apart a small distance. They thought it was a good idea, so they measured how far apart the designer had his fingers apart, and it turned out to be 3 3/4".
I think I read that in one of Sansweet's books. |

Your answer is certainly more logical especially when it comes to Star Wars...I would belive something like totally.
I'm sure petrolium played into it like I was saying...but yeah an AT-AT for a 12" would be like having a pony in your house. |
