OK this makes sense if other stores offer cheaper prices than SS.

The vendors who sell the majority of these will be established online 1/6 retailers. The rest will be sold to the uninformed who buy them through Diamond preorders at their local specialty shop.

That said, the SW line is a whole other ballgame. Who knows if you'll be able to find the GI Joe stuff cheaper down the road? With SW, there's so much to collect people probably add and drop different lines pretty frequently. Not so with GI Joe, and there's a slew of 12" GI Joe collectors out there who haven't had anything to collect for a long, long time (unless you count the 12" RoC figures, which I'm not sure I would - but even if you do, it would hardly put a dent in your pocket). When it's not an exclusive, I've sometimes tried to get a board member to hook me up - stuff comes up for sale quite often on the Sideshow Freaks board. That way, I can save a bit on shipping and sometimes duty/taxes (coming over the US-Canada border). But whenever there is an exclusive version, that's the one I have to have, so unfortunately there isn't really any other route. Oh yeah, and Sideshow's customer service is an excellent reason to stick with them. You can also build up rewards points by buying through them, and honestly, the discounts I've seen at other places haven't really been anything to write home about.

I love Sideshow. They do great toys. I've been buying from them for years. I recently picked up the Cobra Commander and Cobra Trooper. My office is mini showroom with figures from the Star Wars and Indiana Jones lines. I can't recommend them enough.
