I live in Cincinnati Ohio, and today I had to go to Kentucky, while there decided to go to Johnnys Toy store thats in Covington kentucky.
I went to go in the main entrance and all the windows are covered with black plastic, and the doors have a sign on them that says to go to the side entrance, so I have to go all the way around the building to get in so now Im wondering whats going on. Im noticing all the windows but a few by the door are covered with black plastic. By the way the parking lot has a lot of cars in it, so Im thinking ok nothing to worry about, I walk in and directly to my left is this rip off Chuck E Cheese type restaurant loaded with kids and their parents, I think to myself wow that wasnt here last time, I then turn to go look at the toys and my jaw must have hit the floor! This toy store that used to be 2 floors of every kind of toy you could possibly want had been reduced to 3, yes 3 aisles of nothing but a few models and electric train accessories! I went down the last aisle and looked to the other side of the store and there was nothing! All I saw was the elevator and 2 empty display cases. I was crushed, this place had been around since I was little they were all over Ohio and Kentucky, and this is the last one I know of and its almost gone! And guess what, right up the street is a brand new super Walmart!!!! The cancer has claimed another victim. So now All I have is TRU and when thats gone from around these parts all I have is Walmart and Target. This sucks!!!! And Walmarts toy aisles are getting smaller and smaller too so I know whats next, only way to get Joes will be the internet, whats gonna happen to kids in the next generation? will there be no such thing as toys? |

Florence Western Hills Colerain Kenwood Eastgate Centerville You can always go to Traders World and get all the 25th you want too. Its not that far of a drive to Traders World and the prices aren't too outrageous.

That's that damn Totter's Otterville. I heard several months ago that toys were going bye-bye and that crap was taking over the real estate. Their model department was always killer, so I'm glad that is still there at least. The last time I was there, they had zero carded Joes or vehicles (this was the start of the 25th line) and even if they did, their prices were getting pretty bad. Funny thing is while I was there I picked up a Dreamcast game, new and wrapped, for like $2. They were obviously having some trouble and Chuck-E-Cheesing it up was their must logical way to stay open (I understand they are doing some good business this way too)
That does suck hard. I remember going there back in the '80s, two locations ago, when they were located deeper into Covington. I got my first Joe there (Scrap Iron) and would get a key for their toy castle every B-day. I don't have any personal photos of back then, but I did find a photo a little while ago while surfing... hope it brings back some happy memories for ya; it did for me. Then, when they moved to the shopping center, increasing their size, I would hit it up for the new POTF Star Wars figures. They always had a killer selection and prices were decent. A really sad ending to what was a great toy store. |

Ditto. There are plenty of TRUs in driving distance. And completely forgot about Traders World. Haven't been there in years. The good thing about that place is you can haggle with most of the guys there to get a better deal.
