As the title says, Where did this design first come from? Was it Robotech?

Check out www.macrossworld.com for everything Macross. They have an amazing toy archive of Valkyries (what the robot/jets are called). The new stuff from the past 5 years is especially impressive.

From Macross. Macross was brought over along with Southern Cross and Mospeada and tied together under Robotech.
However Macross continued on it's own, separately in Japan and the latest incarnation is Macross Frontier. Macross toy news here: Macross Toy News - Toyark.com |

Too true. Some of the earlier Jetfires in the production run even had the Macross symbols on the wings just like the Macross toys in Japan. What sucked about Jetfire is they had to blunt the nose beause the gov'mnt thought kids were too stupid to be trusted with a pointy one. BY THE WAY! If you get the chance, pick up "ROBOTECH: BATTLECRY" for PS2 or the first XBox. It was an AWESOME game! Loved it!

BY THE WAY! If you get the chance, pick up "ROBOTECH: BATTLECRY" for PS2 or the first XBox. It was an AWESOME game! Loved it! Eh, the company wasn't Takara, it was Matsushiro and Bandai. Takatoku went bankrupt, the molds went into Matsushiro's hands, then Bandai's, and the molds were lent to Hasbro for use to make Jetfire. Since Macross was still on at the time in Japan, Jetfire was not brought over to Japan, and since Hasbro had the license to use the 1/55 VF-1 mold for Jetfire, Matchbox could not use the 1/55 mold for their Robotech series(but could use the SDF-1 and model kits). Same reason why Jetfire in the show was Skyfire and looked completely different. Though there is lineart of the Transformers version of Jetfire in the animation that can be seen in the IDW Ark books. As far as the nose, the safety issue wasn't what caused them to change it; Hasbro simply opted to use the VE-1 ELINT SEEKER mold with the FAST packs and body of the VF-1S, most likely to differentiate it from other valkyrie releases, as it is a unique hybrid(Jetfire is the only VF-1 mold to feature a single seat canopy combined with the blunt VE-1 mold yet use FAST packs from the Super Valkyrie). The best Macross games are Macross for PS2(forgot the name), and Macross Ultimate Frontier on PSP. |
