Snow Job & Gung Ho took several months to get back in '83. My family had found a Gung Ho when the 2nd year figures first hit, but it didn't have the accessories in the package, so we returned it. Many months later, at a Service Merchandise store in Thornton, Colorado, I finally found those two sought after figures (Snow Job ultimately saw a lot of action!!). The next year, Mutt & Junkyard were my "must have" figures and it took a few months to find them as well--ended up getting them at K-Mart. The combination of being dependent on both my parents for a ride out shopping, and needing to save the money to purchase them (I didn't get a weekly allowance) made getting these figures a real treasure.

When Beast Wars frist came out, Dinobot and Cheetor were really hard to find. I ended up with all Cheetor before the show was over, but I didn't get a real Dinobot until the 10th anniversary (now I have the Japanese 10th anniversary and the Henkei).
Also never once saw the TM2 Blackarachnia in stores. My mom got lucky finding that one for xmas.

Remember that Robin Hood movie that starred Kevin Costner? Well, that had a toy line attached to it. I had EVERY figure except Friar Tuck. Try as I may (and I tried) I never found that Fat Bastard. Joe wise though, I never found a V1 Storm Shadow inb the wild. Traded for him on the bus though.... and traded him away soon after... stupid, stupid, stupid! I have him now though... and I wont trade this one!
As for other figures we had to hunt for? I think Mutt and Junkyard was a hard quest for my brother and I. The day we found one at Kmart was a happy day indeed. I was also really psyched when my mother had found some Galoob Star Trek TNG figures for Easter as they were impossible to find. |

I searched a long time to find Baroness, I never did find a Major Bludd, or a carded Cobra Commander. I just had the hooded one.
I also remember finally finding the Night viper and being overjoyed. I was always hiding stuff to come back and buy later as a kid. Because stuff was hard to find then too, especially some of the smaller vehicles and such. I remember how exited I was to find a HAVOC too, I think I had to barrow money from my dad *allowance in advance* To get that one. I was lucky though I got $5 a week in allowance plus extra for mowing yards or cleaning the house really good.. so I could always get a figure or two each week, and the vehicles usually. I remember when a New wave of Joe stuff would hit wal-mart, sometimes I would load a cart full and take it to the Lay-away department, might take me three months to pay it off but at least I got everything I wanted that way. Wish I could do that now.

The only one I remember is Stormshadow V1. A friend and I worked hard helping his dad fill a trailer with tree limbs after he cut down his tree. We both earned enough for one figure and we both wanted Stormshadow. Sadly, when we got to the store we couldn't find him. We decided to pick up Firefly instead because he sorta looked like a ninja and had a cool walkie talkie.
Who woulda known back then that he really was a ninja too?

I got $5 a kid too. I miss those days. More so that the price of toys weren't $10 a figure like now. I still like being able to get 2 figures at a time, one good and one bad so they can fight!
