Not limited to just Joes here. Mom ever tell you if you got an "A" you could get a figure? Or something along those lines? Was there one figure who you searched the pegs for and kept comming up empty handed?...Did it get to the point where your parents were like "Ok 1 more store, then were done..pick someone else" ?....
For me, without a doubt it was friggin Storm Shadow, I can not tell you how elusive BOTH Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow were!..Storm Shadow much more though. It was a happy Easter Sunday when I woke up and saw him next to a chocolate bunny in a basket! I remember being 13 calling every Toys R Us back then trying to find one so I could pester my parents to drive me there to get him. They must have thought I was a lunatic. |

I may have been very lucky but as far as Joes were concerned I never had any problems finding any of them - Zartan, SE, SS etc. were all plentiful although you may have to wait a week or two for restocks.
On the other hand, finding Palitoy stuff was hard as it had just been discontinued by this point and the Hasbro carded stuff was taking over. However, it was not impossible as many of them were still turning up in clearance and in cheap shops. Quarrel, Whirlwind, not to mention Red Shadows were all located without too much trouble. Maybe we were already becoming collectors even theb, but my friends and I always got a real buzz from finding those 'old packet' Joes and comparing our weekend finds at school on Monday. As for other stuff I remember being gutted when my dad told me that Argos was sold out of Zoids Iron Kong one Xmas! And one weekend I did drag my poor Nan all around Sunderland looking for MOTU Hordak but we still found one after about 3 hours! |

I'm not really sure what was that hard... maybe the Dragonzord. I think I got the last one in a 30 mile radius... we hit so many towns looking for one.

Remember that Robin Hood movie that starred Kevin Costner? Well, that had a toy line attached to it. I had EVERY figure except Friar Tuck. Try as I may (and I tried) I never found that Fat Bastard. Joe wise though, I never found a V1 Storm Shadow inb the wild. Traded for him on the bus though.... and traded him away soon after... stupid, stupid, stupid! I have him now though... and I wont trade this one!

As far as Joes, the original Stormshadow was tough to find. Going back to earlier times, Yoda was a tough ticket when ESB came out. I remember going to a toy store when I was 5 and getting one. We didn't see any at the store, so my Mom and Granny asked the cashier if they would be getting any in. The lady pulled one out from behind the counter, and I've still got that Yoda to this day. Also, the first year Transformers were out (1984?), you couldn't find any of them anywhere around here.

Now that you said this I can remember going waaaaaaaay back that if you didnt get MOTU figures like RIGHT when they came out it seemed you were outta luck!
I got Skeletor pretty much right around the commercials were out. My dog proceded to destroy him one night and we went back the week later to get him again it was a nightmare. I think if I wasnt 5 or 6 at the time mom would have given up. But the fact that I was so young and def crying like a bitch that the dog ate Skeletor...we drove everywhere and finally found one. I seem to remember this alot with MOTU |
