I finally found a makers mark on the figure: AIRFIX. The company manufactures military miniatures and model kits... They were also involved with mego and co-marketed the micronauts toy line, until mego folded. Here it's pictured on the cover of the airfix catalog from 1978... which leads to the question... How did it wind up in a 50 cent vending machine at walmart?
