Okay, in all fairness to call these action figures might be a stretch.
However, today I was head shopping the figures at the Dollar Store trying to find some heads to drill for Joes and I ran across Astroboy figures. I had seen them previously at TRU and passed on them there. But for a buck I decided to pick up a peace keeper and two of the soldeir guys. I liked the arm cannon and the gun on the respective thin armed broad chested figures. Their heads aren't very enticing on either figure. As I pulled them out of the blister pack their heads dislodged and their torsos tried to pop off their loose waists. They're shorter than Joes and fairly non-moving. I'm now glad that I passed on these at TRU. For 3 bucks they will be something to cut up. I still like the soldiers chest (kinda his helmet) and the peace keeper's arm cannon. I'm thinking about putting the lower half of a dollar store MMA fighter or Big Lots True Heroe action figure on these barrel chests and seeing if I can't make it a little more interesting. But perhaps not. Maybe I'll just dismantle them and hang them as spare parts in a lab or armory somewhere. I'm not completely sure. I also can't think of other uses for them. If you're an Astroboy fan, perhaps you'll be more interested than I was. Thought I'd mention it. Now that I see these pics blown up in the thread these look to have more articulation than the figures I picked up. Picture these with rubber arms and almost the same detail. Eh not great. I'll try to scan them and post a real pic later. |

I saw the Astro Boy toys at Big Lots like 2 months before the movie came out. I figured it was a bad sign for both the toyline and the movie, and avoided the whole affair.

I didn't get a chance to see the movie. It came out this summer I guess while I was spending time in PA. It went away quick. I just haven't caught it. I basically know the story: sci-fi Pinocchio.
I like the basic designs of these characters, but they're crap. I'm pulling them apart. That might work. Might be armory fodder unless I can figure out how to cut slot into them to create knees. |

$3 is better than the $5 TRU still wants for them. I already picked up 2 Peacekeepers and detailed them when they came out. This may push me into grabbing Astro Boy himself now.

Nirvana, I liked the small detailing you did on yours. I thought about doing something a little more radical with mine. http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...ldier-wip.html I'm throwing a little MMA in the mix. Check out my work in progress thread. |
