I'm sure that's a rhetorical question... being the pastic crack addicts that we are, I'm sure most of us had a Thundercat figure or two during our childhood (probably even the Cat's Lair). Oddly enough, I used to watch the hell out of the cartoon as a kid (and secretly had a crush on Cheetara – j/k), but never had any of the larger size action figures. Being the MOC collector that I am, I had been looking to buy some of these nostalgic pieces from my past... but sadly came to find out that I would have to take a second mortgage on my home to afford them (lol). Anyway, I did the second best thing, and have been purchasing up the old Thundercats Miniature PVC figures... they're each about 2-3 inches in size (some different variations of them out there – as you can see, I got the larger Mumm-ra b/c I always thought he should be bigger and more intimidating than everyone else) and while they don't have the cool articulation of Joes, just looking at them brings me back and makes me want to carry arround a full sized Sword of Omens in a Lion Claw Glove... as if the wifey doesn't think I'm dorky enough with all of my “hobby” collecting.
I got the display case from The Container Store – it ran about $10.00 and purchased most of the mini figures off the secondary market (e-bay). I used adhesive putty on the feet of the miniatures to get them to stay put (they're wiley and you gotta keep your eye on them!). Anyway, it took a while to acquire some of these little guys as it's hard to find some of them complete with their weapons, but I figured Panthro just doesn't look right without his cat nun-chuks, and the Snowcat with Snowmeow is super hard to find (had to buy it from some dude in the Netherlands – these two are my favorite!). So, now that I got mostly everyone that I wanted, here is the roster list: (top from left to right) Cheetara, Tygra, Lion-O, Mumm-ra, S-S-Slithe, (lower deck left to right) Panthro, Snowman with Snowmeow, Grune, Monkian, and Vulture Man. I really love these little cats and mutants! If you happen to have some Thundercats figures (big or small), share 'em so I can continue to relive their glory days... and if anyone has the miniature Mumm-ra (mummified) figure with his crypt and casket set, mini Snarf, mini Wilykit or Wilykat, or mini Ma-mutt, I'd totally be interested in buying any of them from you or working a trade. Thunder, Thunder, Thundercats... HOOO!

Yeah, I was a T-Cats fan. Never owned a single figure though.
BTW, have you seen this: Blog@Newsarama Blog Archive Feel the Magic of ThunderCats concept art. Ben-Gally was always my favorite.

There's been some rumblings about Mattel trying to get the rights to produce a new Thundercats line, I believe. So far nothing has come of it (legal issues and what not), but if they could do one on par with the MOTUC line, I'd buy 'em in a heartbeat.
I was never a huge Thundercats fan, and never owned any of the figures as a kid, but they were pretty damn cool nevertheless. I watched the show when I could.

Dude, that Snowmeow is GREAT!
Too bad they're so rare... I wonder if they'll ever produce a Sword of Omens replica... I've been wanting that for over twenty years now... |
