This may come back to bite me in the butt, but here goes...
This is a new site that has a free limited account that you can sign up and check out, or pay $8.95 per month to get full access. Collector-ActionFigures.com<http://Collector-ActionFigures.com/>, a Web Application for Collectors. I ask you all to check it out and compare it to what I have going on for toys in my archive at www.CTGLinks.com I'll give you my pro's and con's of each....you please do the same. Their Pro's: Lots of info info, with some cool 360 photos. application that allows you to keep track of your collection They have a limited value system Their cons The full experience is not free - they charge. limited on checklists and info (especially for a pay site) They have a limited value system Because it's a standard database, you can't get a true checklist of everything in one shot. My Pro's Lots of info with way better photos and photos of accessories (Much more info coming it's a work in progress) I'M FREE OF CHARGE My checklists (I feel) are easier and more complete. a TRUE checklist. I focus more on accessories and completing your items rather than just another database of info. My Con's Because it's not a database format I do not offer personal checklists or value systems, it's not an application. (I listed these Con's simply because people would like those options, but I say this...databases are limited to what can be done and are not always accurate when relying on blind searches, also eBay is the best valuing system on the planet for anything...an item is only worth what you can get on any given day, and you can get an average price of anything on eBay. So I stay away from that...besides...anyone can write a price guide...it doesn't mean that it will be fair or accurate) So tell me....am I off base on my assessment, is there something I am missing? Let me know, I'd appreciate it : - )

Hey, I don't know if you've used this program yet, but Captain Coder's Action Figure Vault might come in handy for keeping track of stuff:

Action Figure Vault Software But like I said, I'm not too concerned with offering that on my site, but I wanted to know what people thought of this new site that does offer a way to track personal collections??

I saw the advertisement for it and saw two stikes against it right away:
1. Price Guide - The market fluctuates so much that unless their display changes every few minutes like a stock market ticker, I don't feel I can believe it (I realise most toy prices don't change that frequently, but they do change fairly frequently) 2. Monthly Membership Price - Sorry but If I'm going to pay for a resource guide, I want it to be in book form so I actually have something, not just access to a website that can go down at anytime |

Hi guys. I'm from Collector-ActionFigures. We're really not trying to be "competition" to ctglinks.com. We're out to build a useful application for action figure collectors. We started out with our "Universe" and unique DASH 360 photography as having a good database is key to simplifying lots of things collectors need. There is so much inaccurate and poorly organized information about these collectibles, our Wiki-enabled, structured approach is essential to build a really good resource for collectors.
We are adding to the content of the site all the time and we invite collectors to do the same. No charge to access and improve the resource. We do charge for our full product as we think collectors have seen too many of the "not updated since 2005" messages, and a solid business model is essential to fund the resources necessary to deliver a long-term, quality application for collectors. It is monthly if you want, but you can also pay $59.95 for a full year ($5/month), so it's pretty darned affordable for what you get (and will get as we continue to enhance the product). We added values recently, and as we said on the site, we will corroborate these value ranges with sales histories for figures as our much-more-affordable-than-eBay Marketplace goes live next month. The values we have in the application are compiled from a number of sources and should be used as a general guideline for the relative values of figures. We are software guys...not collectors. We aim to serve collectors, and we are taking what we think is a pretty different approach to providing a valuable service for collectors, who have been pretty forgotten over time by general purpose ecommerce site, manufacturers, and retailers. By NOT being a collector, dealer, manufacturer, or in the business otherwise, we know we can be more focused on doing what is most valuable for the collector community as our interests are directly aligned. As I read your posts and cruised through the related sites here, I could think of much more compelling reasons for us to collaborate than compete. Interested? |

Thank you for being so honest. This post wasn't meant as a slam but more of a research tool to gather information to use for my site by comparing yours to mine. The headline was simply to get peoples attention : - )
I will be in contact shortly to talk about how we may be able to help each other. CTG Quote:

I agree with pretty much all your pros and cons for that site... but honestly if I had to pick one over the other I would go with collector-actionfigures and heres why...
It alot easier to use, has a huge database, allows other collectors to contribute to it, feels more professional from the websites layout and design. Although I do like your sites pics, with everything, open and packaged etc. thats something I'm sure collector-actionfigures could impliment very easily, and with it being a fairly new site it has lots of room to get even better, so the small $5 a month membership fee doesn't bother me, if you can afford a happy meal at Mc D's you can afford this website. I'm not slamming your site CTGLinks, but to me this other site is something I would choose over yours. sorry.
