I know the hot toys figures exist as the snap together variety.
But will we ever see a figure line that's dedicated more to the design of the modern era GI JOE stuff? Not the little and now SUPER expensive and rare out-of-print snap-kits. It's come to the point where we're over saturated with all different types of Xenomorphs (as they obviously have been featured in more movies as of late, so it makes sense) but what's the real hang up with not seeing like a nicely designed COLONIAL MARINE 7 PACK that would look like this: RIPLEY HICKS HUDON APONE DRAKE VASQUEZ BISHOP Where have the rights to these figures floated off to? Are they still with 20th Century Fox Licensing? It's hard to track who'd actually be able to produce a nice 4 inch line up of those beloved characters. Although, I may be answering my own questions by saying that it's possible specific character's rights are owned by different companies. IE: the Hicks Movie Maniac from awhile back being with McFarlane. What's the real story behind where these characters have gone? And believe me, a 7 pack of these figures hits even as an online exclusive, it's money in the bank for whomever produces them. There's def a demand for them. 49.99 for that pack, and there's more than a few of us that would spring for the set. Thoughts? |

Like everyone else, i LOVED that movie. I have been getting real selective lately on what toys i buy (put a kid in braces and you'll understand!), but i would pay some serious $$ for a 25th style fig set, w/movie accurate QUALITY accessories. I would have absolutely no problem paying $70 to $100 for this seven pack. I would pay $200 right now, this second, for an in scale drop ship w/APC...

There were some very awesome Hot Toys "snap kits" that came out a couple years ago that basically let you build your own 4" ALIENS figures, but they were only released in Japan and import prices over here made them fairly expensive. Still, from what I've seen the size, detail, and poseability are comparable to modern Joes.
Sadly, like many others I didn't even know of their existence until after they'd come and gone from online retailers, and now they're pretty hard to come by. They occasionally pop up on ebay but again are moderately expensive. Personally, I think the best chance we'd have of something like this getting released stateside is if someone like Mezco or NECA got the rights and made them like the Hellboy 2 figures they had last year. Or maybe, just maybe if Ridley Scott gets his ALIEN prequel off the ground, the franchise might get licensed to a major manufacturer and pull an "Indiana Jones" style line where they make figures from all the various films. |

I'd be on board for sending a petition to Hasbro to see if they would make them in the 25th style or even send the petition to 20th century fox

I certainly hope so. Nothing would make me happier than to walk into TRU and see aliens figues done in the style of 25th/ME GI-Joe. A scale APC and dropship wouldn't be too shabby either. I can see them doing a 3 3/4" power loader as well.
Oh yeah, the Hot Toys snap kits were cool and everything, but they are really true to their name when the call them "snap" kits. :( |

Not to be cruel, but the only way Hasbro is going to pick up a license like this is with some kind of media tie-in. Unless you think you can get a couple million names on that petition (unlikely at best).
Heck, the toy rights might be held by someone else as we speak. |

Toy rights generally don't go on for years and years. You don't own them, you rent them for a predetermined time. Kenner long ago lost rights to make toys, just as McFarlane did. You can probably call Fox and find out who has/how to go about getting merchandising rights.
