Back in the late 70's I was (like all kids) a huge collector of Star Wars. After the Star Wars line ended in 1985 - I started getting into GIJoe.
In 1994, when Joe ended - I got back into Star Wars. That lasted until about Episode II - when I couldn't take even more and more re-issues of characters I had already bought five times. About the same time as GIJoe was making a resurgence... Now, after the 25th line is dying down - and the ROC line is peg-warming everywhere - I feel really drawn to the Star Wars line again. Anyone else feel this way? Like its a cycle or something? The new Star Wars vehicles, ships, etc are just COOL. The Clone Wars cartoon is awesome - and it makes me want to collect the figures that go along with it. By comparison, GIJoe gets repaint after repaint, stupid high-priced toys like The Pit - and a line of figures that are all gray or black... and all look the same. Right now Star Wars makes Joe look like a second thought on Hasbro's part... |

Your story mirrors mine except I have no craving for the SW stuff yet... still favoring the Joes. The only SW stuff I've been snatching are the many incarnations of the EpIII clone troopers and just the troopers; no ARF or BARC (or WOOF ) or drivers. I swear I have 20 or more, each with their own unique paint job.

Never got into the Star Wars toys, even as a child. I guess, for me Star Wars was a movie I only seen a handful of times, but GI Joe the cartoon and Transformers was something I would watch everyday. So I was more opt to be drawn to them. I remember other kids having them with the cool C3PO figure carrying case and all, but never owned any myself.

i was talking about 2010 wave 1 Build-A-Droid 2010 Wave 01 - Case of 12 - Star Wars Clone Wars Animated (2008 - 2009) Legacy Collection Build-A-Droid at BigBadToyStore but I would LOVE to know with ones you are talking about. Ever since Stars Wars started making a better attempt at making sure ball joints are where they need to be I have been buying.

About the same time as GIJoe was making a resurgence... Now, after the 25th line is dying down - and the ROC line is peg-warming everywhere - I feel really drawn to the Star Wars line again. Anyone else feel this way? Like its a cycle or something? SW->Masters of the Universe->G.I. Joe->Comic Books(Batman and X-Men) with a few other lines like TMNT or Dino-Riders tossed in here and there. When SW re-emerged in 94/95, I had spent several years before buying up the vintage stuff. So, like many others, I jumped on the new SW figures. I too lost interest in SW figures after version after version of the same character came out. In the last ten years, the advances in action figure quality have advanced exponentially, especially when compared to the two decades previous. Because of this, I have little interest in spending money on versions of these characters that aren't up-to-date. I also lost a lot of interest in SW after the dismal reaction I had to each prequel. I only buy characters from the original trilogy. Long story short, I've been buying "definitive" versions of each character that were a part of the vintage line. I don't want cartoon versions of a character. I don't buy clone troopers or prequel characters. All that being said, there are some really great figures coming out in the next few waves that are huge improvements over their earlier counterparts. Major Panno(Pruneface) is coming out with soft goods and top-notch sculpting. He's a must get for me. Others, like the Skiff Guards from wave 9 are also very tempting. But, Jango Fett vr9.0 or repack of Anakin from the Vader evolution set are a waste of time, as far as I'm concerned. After Episode 1 and all the money I spent on figures from that movie and then actually seeing it, I started buying what I want as opposed to one of everything. |
