I ask because I just saw the new Jazwares (or whoever) Simpsons stuff on TNI, and if memory serves, the last try at Simpsons figures was always on clearance. I wonder about that with a lot of figure lines these days: is anyone actually buying any of this stuff at MSRP? It feels there's a lot of waiting for clearance after the initial "gotta have it first!" crowd gets their's.

Maybe this is where I'm the oddball toy collector, but there’s a megabuttton of IPs I have zero interest in buying toys from regardless of how much I enjoyed the game/movie/show/etc. The Simpsons is one of those.

Yeah, same. I wouldn't mind that Moe's Tavern Prank Phone for some reason (I know it would just end up in a box in storage), but I genuinely wonder who this product is for besides hardcore Simpsons fans who also still dig toys. I imagine it appeals to the same folks who like Pops and other collectibles like that. What I don't see are too many kids being interested in it, and probably the same with the bulk of adult toy collectors. I do know that pretty much every mainstream toy line at retail tends to hit clearance pretty quick nowadays, and it's usually not just one or two slow-selling offerings left hanging around, but the entire line.

I collect GI Joe and Lego to an extent. Other than that when I walk through a toy aisle with my kids I have no real desire to collect any other toy line. The only ones that have really grabbed my interest the past few years are:
The Real Ghostbusters reissues released a few years back - always wanted Peter, Egon, Winston, Ray and Ecto-1 but never got around to pulling the trigger. That would have been a nostalgia grab. Loved this line and the cartoon as a kid. TMNT - More for my sons to enjoy another toyline that I thought was cool as a kid. So far neither of them have shown too much interest though. I think the type of collectors out there are so varied and there are those that have a wide variety of interests and lines they collect. It is surprising to me that their are new Simpsons toys being released, the whole premise of Simpsons toys seem to be strictly focused on collectors rather than having any real playability. Honestly, I am not even sure how popular The Simpsons are these days. To me that show peaked around 2000, I used to watch it religiously through high school but then it just lost my interest. It does seem like a bizarre choice for toyline in 2024. |

That being said, The Simpsons have been around for so long and is such a cultural icon, I think there are hardcore fans of it that may have missed whatever figures were previously released and will get these for display. |

I agree. I think it's been more than 15 years since I've seen a Simpsons episode. When Family Guy and South Park came out I thought they were written smarter and were funnier; but in time, they lost my interest (although it may have been more due to lack of time/energy to keep up with them). I can't remember the last time I've seen Family Guy or South Park. I think the former is done but South Park is still going strong.

At one point during the 90s I had seen every Simpsons episode, and most of them twice. I was collecting Joes at that point, and continued collecting toys through the 90s.
We had one Bart figure with the skateboard and speech bubble. I don't know how he got to our house, or what happened to him, but he languished on a shelf until he wasn't there anymore. I understand that toys of sitcoms are a thing that's been tried repeatedly but this just feels like a line that nobody asked for. I didn't need them then, and I don't need them now no matter how good (or bad) the show is.

I had a longish post typed up, but I accidentally erased it. I began to re-type it, and then figured that I should, in a rare moment of brevity, sum it up as succinctly as possible:
"meh."
