Has anyone else gotten any of these? I've gotten 4 of the sets so far and am probably going to get another 4 or 5 so I can build them up into a really cool connected facility.

they're fragile, I bought several for my son and they are nice but be aware that pieces break with min effort. we've had the same issues with Joy Toy;s mech dios, they look great but break easily. so be very careful when you are working with them.

Look better and stand up long term better than printouts pasted on cardboard. These sets are not really meant to be played with just as displays.

Yeah, these definitely aren't meant for play. They make incredible displays though. I love some of the pictures of what people have made with multiple sets.

Anyone here wants a quality modular plastic set go to Smalljoes.com and look up complex. As for printouts yeah, I offer some, all free to download and use. And if you used any of mine they're sturdy, and if they breakdown from use, you can print out another. As for other pay cardboard sets not all are bad, a prime example is readysetz which made very sturdy printed display environments. If a piece breaks off joytoy or this environment set good luck getting a replacement. So plastic I reccomend complex. You won't regret it, my kids haven't. Plus complex has some great add ins if you're a 1:18 fan.

If you broke it, then why would JoyToy be required to send a replacement? Second, the replacement would have to come from China, so wouldn't just fixing the broken piece be faster?

Bujo, pieces break on these sets simply by reconfiguring them, on Facebook there's been entire conversations on both this set and joy toy sets breaking just by trying to gently take them apart to add onto them with additional sets. My oldest son is meticulous with his collectibles, and when he was putting 2 sets together the parts cracked then broke. These sets are great for displaying, but the issue is building out and adding onto them, pieces break too easily. Joy Toy is just as bad, stair and walkway pieces and tabs break off way to easily. Both companies can make an effort to at the very least offer replacement parts.

If they were American companies building toys for kids that exceed 4+ standards with local retailers available for returns, then I'd agree. Being they aren't, I don't think there's any obligation on JoyToy's part. If they choose to address the issue it would likely be something similar to the extra parts included with the figures. In the mean time you're stuck choosing between fixing them yourself or waiting for someone else to fix it for you.

Complex look nice, but seems very expensive to build anything substantial.
JoyToy offers great value and variety. The tightness of the connectors is the big problem. I've seen suggestions of using a small rubber mallet for assembly and disassembly. Another suggestion was to add a drop of the shock oil remote-control hobbyists use on their plastic parts. But that seems like a lot of bother and potential messiness. FreshRetro seem decent, but don't wow me somehow. Maybe it's that to me they have more of a generic toy look to them, compared to the detail and weathering on the JoyToy. They're also in between on scale. They're a good offering, but I suppose JoyToy has just drawn my attention away from these. |

I'd like to see more pictures with the Fresh Retro sets. I've mainly see the Joy Toy versions.
