Yeah, this toys for adults thing has gone too far. Is it so easy to start a toy business nowadays you can just greenlight any crummy idea? Maybe I'm just way out of touch with what adult toy collectors think is cool, but the last thing I want or need are toys based on the tedium of the office. I mean, the names and designs aren't even clever, so I guess that's in keeping with the boredom and anti-creativity of most office environments. I'd respect it if they were transformers (you know, a robot that transforms into a stapler...shit like that) because that at least takes some hard work to engineer, but this stuff...? These are like those California Raisins characters you got free in boxes of Raisin Bran or that rubber Noid figurine Domino's would toss into the bag with your breadsticks.

I was contemplating getting some for my brother. They're a fun one-off gag gift at $5 each. Not so much at $25 each.
I always found the "who asked for this?" argument to be lazy and short sighted. Half of entrepreneurialism is exploring and creating new markets. Regardless if it's something I want or not kudos to those who bring new things to market. If there's anything to get upset about it's the commentary the toys make upon the terrible eating habits of desk jockeys. |

Happy meal rejects, is what they are.
They'd be better off making quality versions of the characters from the show, The Office.

The "I like this so maybe others will too" school of invention is literally the modus operandi behind the most successful IPs on the planet. It's the "appeal to the widest audience possible" approach that results in the most milquetoast products. That's the primary difference between Star Wars OT and Star Wars ST.
Whether you like it or not enough folks saw it as worthwhile to invest their time, effort and money to get to this level of production. If it succeeds, great. If not, then obviously they failed to find a suitable market. Like I said, if they were $5 I'd be game. They'd make great stocking stuffers and fit with the random weirdness my friends expect to get from me. |

Similarly, Hasbro took a huge gamble making a doll for boys back in '64.

A gamble because that was an original idea, and one mitigated somewhat by copious amounts of market research. It would've been even less of a gamble if they were copying an idea another entity had already proven viable.

I don't have the patience for spending money on stuff just for the sake of doing so. This type of shit has it's audience.
