I know some of you are skeptical about the message these failed Haslabs are sending to the Hasbro big shots. However, I think at some point, the cost factor has to be at least mentioned/brought up, at their "what went wrong" meetings. I guess we can all wait and see what the next offering is, and it'll show us whether or not they are getting the actual message or not.
Hey Hasbro: Id you're charging over $300, it better be for something AMAZING (and large). The spikes in TVC pricing, for instance. They are significant, and bear addressing. It's also odd given Cocks' acknowledgement of price sensitivity, to the then around and charge $17 for repacks, like we won't notice. That's a $4 increase in what? Less than two years? Jazwares has only gone up $2 in that time, and they produce more figures and more new tooling, with comparable articulation and accessories.

less than a year. they just raised the price last year because the day ended in y.
they were out of the tooling/paint app excuses then. hell, they just raised them, then farted out a "deluxe" grampa fett for more than regular price, and then raised the price another dollar on the regular line. |

The cool thing is, by not buying it because you deem it too expensive/not worth it, you're sending that message to Hasbro in the only way that actually matters. Bitching about price, but buying it anyway only says you accept the higher prices.

Not for repacks, though

If I were Hasbro, I would be very careful going forward with their future HasLab campaigns - specifically with the prices they are setting and the prices going up too much are more than likely the biggest reason for this.
Only 1 campaign failed out of the first 8 (Cookie Monster was the first failure and only the 2nd campaign back in July 2019) and now they have had 3 failures in the past 11 months and another probably on the way (Heroscape is probably going to fail in a couple more weeks as well) and will be their 4th in the past year (5th overall since their 1st campaign in 2018) out of 16 campaigns. The recent TF campaign will be a success and fund making their success rate 11/16 total since HasLab started. Technically, 6 campaigns have failed since Unicron initially failed but was for whatever reasons given an extra month to fund. Which has never happened since and has never been explained by Hasbro themselves as to why it was extended and none since then have been given the same 2nd chance. HASLAB CAMPAIGNS 2018 - 01/01 100% success rate (01/01 100% success rate overall) 2019 - 01/02 50% success rate (02/03 67& success rate overall) 2020 - 03/03 100% success rate (05/06 83% success rate overall) 2021 - 04/05 80% success rate (09/11 82% success rate overall) 2022 - 02/05 40% success rate (11/16 69% success rate overall)

I still don't think Hasbro gets the message. Especially if their rumored takeaway of the Boba's/Jabba's Palace not selling out is "Nobody wants a Death Star or Cantina".
Like their takeaway for years had been "Nobody wants TVC" because the Phantom Menace wave rotted and thus they canceled TVC the first time. Hasbro doesn't seem to get the hint. Sure, they said "Perhaps the pricing has caused our profits to dip" but they haven't said "Hey, let's lower prices back to where they were!". No, instead they said "Hey, let's add MORE deluxe and exclusive Star Wars for $27.99! each" |

the proton pack should not have been as successful as it was.
that should have been a complete proton pack with thrower and alice frame, and not have people be obligated to purchase a thrower to make it complete and a frame to modify the production toy. im tired of building these stupid things. getting it all in one go would have been the most ideal situation for everyone in the world. there are a bunch of ghostbusters and it would have been nice not to keep to the one where they MOLDED ON FABRIC STRAPS MADE OUT OF PLASTIC. mattel handled the ghostbusters prop stuff better as far as im concerned. |

But I do think push back is starting, and the pricing as a reason should be clear to them. They'd have to be intentionally obtuse to take any other meaning from it.

You'd think with repaints, repacks, and losing the plastic it would have kept prices stable at the least. Instead we're in an era of $15.99 3.75 Star Wars figures and $25.99 6" figures, with more and more expensive exclusives and deluxe, too.
I mean, the hell is Marvel Legends Toad or Kamakura $31.99? There is nothing deluxe about them. |

This isn't directed at the comment you're responding to specifically but I'm fuckig floored by the amount of credit people give disney for Hasbro's choices.
Like, literally blaming disney for trying to kill tvc and then controlling Hasbro's offerings, including dictating the market shift to 6". In short, Disney is telling Hasbro to produce less toys is a thing people think is happening. If anyone does have sources they can recommend for the amount of control Disney has in telling a liscensee to make or not make something I would love to read/watch them. |
