The last two HasLabs have failed miserably. Hasbro needs to re-evaluate how it’s going to utilize HasLab in the future because I feel what they are doing with it is no longer funding “dream” projects with what they tried to do with Reva’s lightsaber and the Engine of Vengeance. Hoping they can get their act together before the next GI Joe HasLab.

I think there may be a disconnect between how Hasbro looks at HasLab and how Disney/Lucas/Marvel does. When you look at what GI Joe and Transformers has done with HasLab all the projects lean towards the dream side of things. Unicron, transformers that were never released in the US, Skystriker which had not been released in ARAH form since Night Force, 6" scale HISS. The first Star Wars/Marvel HasLabs fit the dream concept: sail barge, sentinel, Galactus. But I think Disney did not get the "dream" concept out of their successes, but simply saw HasLab as a way to produce any large item that would not happen through normal distribution channels. This they have Hasbro try to make items that noone was really asking for. Going forwards I think we will continue to see a certain shine/dream quality to any internal HasLab property. For licenced HasLabs it will depend on if the recent failures have given Hasbro enough clout to tell there licensors "no, that won't work." If they can do that we will see an upgrade in the wow factor of licensed HasLabs. Otherwise we will continue to see Disney pushing whatever big item the good idea fairies come up with regardless of its actual chance at success.

I think the only impact Disney has on Haslab is via the cost of the licensing fee. I mean, of course Disney Consumer Products have final approval on products and can tell Hasbro what characters/films/etc need to be featured, but it's up to Hasbro to come up with the toys themselves. The popularity of the brands actually make it less-risky to produce things that otherwise may not be made, but I think the licensing costs are forcing Hasbro into trying certain things on Haslab simply because they can't make the numbers work for retail and they're unsure of the actual popularity. In that sense, they're using Haslab exactly as intended: to offer more "obscure" products to collectors they can't make a retail case for.
Like, literally blaming disney for trying to kill tvc and then controlling Hasbro's offerings, including dictating the market shift to 6". In short, Disney is telling Hasbro to produce less toys is a thing people think is happening.

This isn't directed at the comment you're responding to specifically but I'm fuckig floored by the amount of credit people give disney for Hasbro's choices.

I can't believe Hasbro thought they needed to sell 9000 of the GR Haslabs, at 350 dollars each, in order to make a profit.

I know some of you are skeptical about the message these failed Haslabs are sending to the Hasbro big shots. However, I think at some point, the cost factor has to be at least mentioned/brought up, at their "what went wrong" meetings. I guess we can all wait and see what the next offering is, and it'll show us whether or not they are getting the actual message or not.
Hey Hasbro: Id you're charging over $300, it better be for something AMAZING (and large).

And therein lies the problem: we have no clue about actual costs or anything like that. We speculate, but we don't know. All we can do is decide whether it's worth it to us or not. The cost to Hasbro & what margin they need doesn't matter. Either what they're offering is worth it to you or it isn't.
