I'm a 1/18 collector, so no dog in this fight. However, I bought both the Sentinel and Galactus, and in comparison this Engine of Vengeance is a bit lackluster.
I'm curious if Hasbro has adopted the perceived value model similar to Apple and other smartphone companies where the flagship phone has a price of $1000 regardless of production costs because a lower msrp wouldn't be interpreted as savings, but a decrease in quality. Keeping HasLab at $350 would make it a status symbol more than an evaluation of worth. In a recent interview, one of the SW reps said Haslab doesn't have to be "big" items- I guess he never said they wouldn't still be expensive

Had this been an accurate sculpt of a Dodge Charger, I would have bought it in a second. But it's more like some Grand Theft Auto type version of a sorta Charger. So it's a pass for me. Hell, if they'd made it a real Charger they could have sold it later on as a Fast & Furious car with a Vin Diesel figure and probably made twice as much money.

It's infuriating that a billion-dollar corporation 'needs' to fund-raise at all. It's exploitation sold as exclusivity, for a premium.

1000% this. All haslabs are trash. They're taking the kickstarter system for their own and raising prices for other lines to reflect indie companies costs because they (indie companies)don't have 40 year business relationships with factories that hasbro has. I love Haslabs and have backed several so far. However, there does, in my opinion, seem to be a decrease in the "bang for your buck" with the last few. The Barge, Sentinel, Razor Crest, Galactus, Unicron were expensive, but at least with those you were getting a massive, exclusive, impressive item.
Then came the Skystriker, and while many thought that was a ripoff, the lower price and the inclusion of 7 carded figures made it well worth it to me. (There are 3 Haslab failures that have already been discussed to death, Cookie Monster, Rancor Monster, and Rev's LightSaber.) Then came the Hisstank. While cool, I was already vocal in questioning both the size and value of it. (and it went over really well). However, they added in 4 figures, and with a slightly lower price than previous Haslabs, the value was still somewhat there. With this Ghost Rider car, they are REALLY trying to test the market and find out just how much profit they can squeeze out of the collecting community. No way in hell is that thing worth $350 (or $400, really, after tax and shipping). I also wouldn't even consider that car Haslab worthy. Now, I believe, it's been said that each tier will be a ML figure. So, *if* it hits all of the tiers, then you can factor those figures into the price. However, it's still not worth it in my opinion. I'm sitting this one out, for sure this time. I WILL be watching closely though, as I'm very curious to see how this one turns out.

He does make some good points...I mean if you want to buy Haslab then buy them..But I do think some of them are just cash grabs and overpriced..I also think that the price increase of the figures now is ridiculous.. Like Kamakura..what makes him a $34 figure??... because he's an exclusive.. I think Hasbro is the only one that does this.. McFarlane doesn't raise the price of his exclusives

Exactly. Hasbro is a for-profit company. Their purpose is to sell product and make a profit. Not to do fans a favor.
That said, I'm not going to support this Haslab, since I have no interest in this version of Ghost Rider. Using the car for other lines/characters could be neat, but it's too expensive just to get as a prop for other lines. |

Generally, "cash grab" is an indicator of which folks know nothing about running a business and you should never invest with them. They also take purchase evaluations way too personally and emotionally. |
