Got Quaritch in my PoL yday, and I'm both impressed and consternated by him. Pretty much all the issues root in Todd's attempt at making him both super-poseable and super-detailed adding up to make him super-frustrating. For all the joints he has he can't really do much more than a lesser-articced figure can do.
The butterfly shoulders are useless since they still sculpted the outer points of his pectorals to block his arms swinging in; and the upper-bicep swivels bring his bicep muscle in to add to blocking inward arm-swing as well. This prevents him from two-handed gun shooting. The double-elbow hinges don't accomplish anything a larger single-elbow joint couldn't do, while being ridiculously ass-ugly. The hips are weirdly given a double socket? I'm not seeing what that does at all beyond increasing mold costs. And the pelvis is sculpted so far down he really does look like he's shat his britches. I'm not one to generally care about man ass on my action figures, but damn if I want be-shatten britches in my collection. As has long been Todd's predilection, he sacrifices playability for appearance while now striving for super-articulation as well; but it doesn't really add up for me, yet. All that being true there are some features I do greatly appreciate. The second masked head being two pieces of the head and then the mask added on makes it all look much better than a single-sculpt head with a clear faceplate glued in place as Hasbro would have done, imho. The seams between mask-straps and his head are so much sharper than an all-in-one sculpt could achieve. The pair of guns and blast effects are cool, as is the coffee cup. Very nice character-detail that is. However, I'm puzzled why he holsters left but shoots right; which looks to be a character design issue rather than choice by Todd. But it would have been nice to get a left trigger hand so he can simply draw and fire left (which could have been done by simply sculpting the grabby hands with separate trigger fingers like most companies do). He's a very interesting figure but I'm not seeing a whole lot that makes him significantly better than what MTF could give us despite the obvious attempt at making him so. |

I actually see a lot of old west re-eanactors who every once in a while will wear their irons that way. I can't really say it is useful...but a lot of do it for the "cool" factor. Personally...I am more about functionality...but the figure is accurate to the movie...and we are talking about James Cameron who is more about the coolness factor on his films than functionality. |

I was actually trying to find full-body shots of Lang in the flick to verify but GISing was fruitless. Gracias for the explanation, I'll have to try inserting it grip-forward. I could see Q wearing it left-forward to keep his right hip free to swing the rifle forward from the back, without risking entangling the strap or rifle against a right-holster pistol.
I noticed Todd failed to give him his wristwatch, however. I started some heavy mods to the figure to explore his engineering and customization-suitability. I quite like his overall stature, esp now that I've come up with a solution for the ugliness of his arm engineering. I've got a few customs in mind already but I need to finish this one up first. |

It's actually not for "cool" factor, it's actually a smarter way to wear a pistol as a Calvary while on horseback, and later while sitting inside a cramped helicopter cockpit. Imagine trying to draw your pistol with grip pointing backward, in a cockpit you'll be banging your elbow behind you while reaching down. But with the grips facing forward, you reach across your lap right hand to left holster and left hand to right holster, it's a lot easier. That's why cavalries (and people that sits it cockpits) wear it that way, it's a nice little touch. |

I'm amazed he has the guts to charge $24.99 for it. The giant ass AMP suit only being $15 more really makes me question that value of the character figure. I just can't pull the trigger for that when I see TVC figures for $11.99-$13.99 next to it.
That said, so far I haven't seen a single AMP suit. Either it's not being stocked along with the rest of the Avatar stuff or it's selling fast. |

There's definitely enough there to justify $25, and I'll likely get a few more for big dude customs. There's a shit-load of articulation on him - even tho there's an argument for how effective or necessary particular choices are - and a good pile of appropriate accessories. Todd is definitely trying to provide bang for the buck, imho.

I'm not seeing the value at $25. That's two Star Wars, Fortnite or Halo figures. Otherwise it's better to save a few more bucks and buy JoyToy. I might bite at $15.
