Is anyone else collecting these? I picked up the Batwing and Supermobile as well as a couple of the figures (Superman and John Stewart GL) today and I have to say they are really solid, fun toys.
Here are some pics of the Batwing with the OG Super Powers Dynamic Duo... Press the Bat-symbol and the canopy pops open! The capture claw on the front gets a pretty good grip on the figures. The blue matches the blue of the original Bat-vehicles perfectly, and whoever designed this went above and beyond because the cockpit design/color mimics the OG Batmobile's interior. Even the shape and style of the Bat-symbol matches the ones on the vintage Bat-vehicles! Overall, the Batwing feels like it's straight out of 1986, as solidly built and well-designed as any vintage Kenner vehicle. And at only $20 bucks, it's a great value as well. Hats off to McFarlane for making this 40-something kid's dream come true. I can't tell you the rush I felt seeing the iconic Super Powers brand look back on toy shelves again! |

Well for twenty bucks you can't go wrong for a vehicle! Can't say this line interests me much but I do like the retro look to it. Still the Batwing looks very nice. Surprised they kept the guns on it considering they apparently are not allowed to give characters guns as accessories any more. At least when it comes to the DC Multiverse line. Still I can't deny that for twenty bucks you get a damned good vehicle for the dynamic duo.

I want to like the figures more than I actually do. But the vehicles look great. The Batcopter gives me ideas of using one of the old black ones for a Cobra copter.

I'm not collecting them myself because my collection is getting out of hand but I think they're pretty cool. I always wanted the Super Powers Aquaman as a kid so hope he gets put out.

The figures just about capture the vintage aesthetic, but they're slightly out of scale with the originals. I know it's McFarlane, so we're going to get a Batman or three in every wave, but I really hope they consider doing some of the figures from the proposed fourth wave, as well as the classic New Teen Titans that were also pitched.

Is the broken cockpit canopy fixable?

I've been lucky so far with mine, but I'd like to know this too. Does the plastic itself break in any way, or is it just that the canopy pops off intact but is difficult to put back on with the mechanism? I'd like to know how to take care not to break the one I have if I can.

There's some design flaw or manufacturing weakness or problem that causes the canopy hinge to break at the pivot point, which is like two pegs that rotate in two opposing sockets. I say it's a flaw or weakness/defect because I've read about the same breakage occurring to numerous people now. On mine, the broken piece actually feels really thick and not brittle at all, but it could be a flaw/impurity in the plastic where it broke, or maybe there's too much constant force from the spring that raises on the canopy on that pivoting piece, or maybe there's a flaw in the sockets those pegs rotate in that causes the pegs to hang up and shear. Regardless, gluing it may not hold up to the stress as a fix. The canopy on mine still plugs in at the hinge point and latches at the front, it just isn't spring actuated anymore and doesn't open and close cleanly now. You have to fuss with it. I'm undeciding on whether to exchange it and try again or live with it.

I disagree on the pricing. The Batwing is a nice retro-feel vehicle, and worth it at $20, but it's too small for $30, especially when that's the same price for the larger Supermobile. And with the breakage problem, it's not even worth $5. Piece o' shit. Toys shouldn't break like that.
I still have most of my originals and I wish the new stuff was better scaled to the old line. That said, I can live with Superman or Batman being a little taller than most, but Flash definitely needs to be a smaller figure comparatively, so that's good news. I'm new to McFarlane DC, but I understand creating figures in a consistent scale is not one of their strong suits. Hope they can work out the kinks becuase this is a comeback I have waited a very long time for. |
