My XL 15 remains boxed, for me to get off my lazy ass and finally turn it into the Power Jet like everyone suggested.
Wasn't someone here turning it into a Vector? |

I saw the Star Command Base Interactive Playset earlier today at TJMaxx for $49 on clearance, probably the cheapest I've seen it at so far. Is that playset worth it? Anyone here played with it yet?

It might be worth it at 50. Keep in mind, I think it's fair to say this is mostly not really a playset, it's a flat figure display with Sound Board that can display the ships. However. . . . . the launch vehicle is VERY nice, and the transform feature actually is incredible, just the damn thing itself is pretty useless. The Animated Masters of the Universe Castle now that's a good example of a playset. Massive too, wider and taller than the vintage Grayskull. *edit: 1/29/23: as wide and tall if not more. Brain fart there. Last edited by Snakeeyesisposh; 01-29-2023 at 08:44 AM.. Reason: brain fart |

For me its a bit lame to be honest. Never was a big fan of these opening playsets. It would have been better if they done something similar to Joytoy with multiple mini playsets that you can put together and give depth to the environment. This doesn't give much depth. I don't see much difference between this and a wallpaper with a photo of it. The one god thing is the launcher.

After watching the review the best part of the playset is definitely that crawler vehicle. That would look cool decked out in Cobra colors with that XL01 ship painted up as a Cobra Stiletto. Or customized into a Rocket launcher like the old cardboard Cobra rocket base.
The playset itself looks like it would be better taken apart and used to kitbash or augment other playsets. The computers, crystal holders, storage racks, the triangular walls at the weird angle, and the bottom part with the door and shelves all look like they would look better taken off the set and used as Diorama parts. As the playset is out of the box now its way too big, way too flat, and with not enough floor space on any of the levels to make a good playset as is. Too much seems to be sacrificed for the transforming play feature. I'll keep an eye out for one on deep cleareance under $25 or at Thrift stores and garage sales in a couple years for custom parts. Edit: I have to say though Mattel has done a great job with this Lighyear line, tons of great vehicles, good affordable figures, the awesome giant robots, and even this playset. Hasbro needs to take notes, this is how you do a line both Kids and collectors can enjoy. I would love to see what Mattel could do with a military toy license. Its a shame the movie doing less than expected performance wise, probably affected toy sales. Last edited by sisco; 01-29-2023 at 07:41 AM.. |

i just spent about 30 minutes trying to split open a buzz lightyear from this line. it's impossible. i boiled it. i shoved a screw driver in it to snap all the pegs inside.
the pegs are tough. the only thing i succeeded in doing was making that rectangular back hole into a bent to hell pried plastic circle, loosened his waist, and a knee. i totally ruined the great "stiff" articulation this figure had. so, im open to ideas to getting in there and cracking his torso open. the neck has two pegs that snap to something where the arms snap on the inside, and then a disc that surrounds the inside of the torso. i was trying NOT to bring a dremel to the toy; but since this one is so far gone and i only wanted to change out the neck and head, that's what i want to hit. i hate that i've messed this up this much. |
