I am very fascinated by how the G.I. Joe community is divided along lines that are sometimes blurry but sometimes very distinct between the comics readers and the cartoon watchers.
I am not active in any other fan communities (let's be honest, I'm barely active in this one) but I am curious what other divides exist that run fandom-wide. G1 Tranformers fans vs Bayformers? Animated Star Wars people vs Movie Star Wars? Regail me with your stories and insights!

Like the comics. More darker and I slept in on cartoon days.

Neither.
Why artificially constrain oneself? Questions like these are always rooted in nostalgia and eliminate any room for progress or innovation. |

I am involved in just about every toy collecting community/demographic there is. I can not think of a schism as pronounced as the a Joe community in terms of which of these two played a role in how they see the franchise.
I am not sure that this is always a bad thing. It speaks to how vast and rich the storytelling capabilities of the brand are. It must be a nightmare for brand managers, though. |

Oh crap you're on to me. I thought I could fool people into thinking this poll was just a fun way to kick off a thread about the factions that can form within toy collecting communities, but you caught me. In reality, this is part of my sinister plan to stop all progress and innovation.
On day 60, when this poll closes, my anti-inovationnonater will delete all traces of the losing media from the world, along with GI Joe: Resolute, Mike Costa's Chuckles series, and sink every cargo ship with every newly manufactured GIJoe figure but the o-rings. I can't believe you caught me, but you're a clever one. Wait, why am I monologuing? I learned better than this in Super Villain school. I shouldn't be monologuing. Forget everything I just said. I didn't say anything. Everything is perfectly fine here, perfectly normal. Carry on.

I agree that it isn't all bad. It's kind of fun to see stuff from both, and new interpretations. Even though I'm a comic guy to the core, when I saw that super 7 ultimate Snake Eyes with no gloves, I was floored by how powerful the nostalgia was seeing a toy that recreated that so accurately. Didn't see that emotion coming. And as for new stuff, I think GI Joe Renegades will always be my daughter's one, true GI Joe medium, and Tunnel Rat will forever be her favorite character of all time. Rich storytelling capabilities, indeed.

Neither, it was always all about the figures for me.
