i have 22 lbs (i just weighed it) of o-ring gijoe parts. i was able to get them as other people were moving into the 25th style shit super cheap. the most i ever paid was 50 bucks and that was the majority of this. now? 50 bucks wont get much of anything. im glad i didnt pass up on this years ago. i'd be completely fucked now. imbeciles are paying 30 bucks for an incomplete tunnel rat just to brag amongst other imbeciles today.
so yeah, i totally can see it as a "prepper" point of view. that's one thing i ask myself in the toy aisle "do i want it?" yes. "what do i need it for?" not sure. "will i be able to find it again?" no. usually, it's that last question that determines if i get it or not. because 9 chances out of 10 im not going to find it again now. if it's star wars im probably getting it. if it's fortnite, eh they need to be REALLY cool. i'd clean house if there were rah sculpt style o-ring figures on the shelves just for fodder, but i know that'll never happen. when it comes to gijoe, retro means "5 poa shit from super 7" and "too tall modern sculpt skinny limbs hasbro shit." |

I think that if you collect you're going to have a good chunk of your collection that just isn't viably displayable. I don't think that goes over the line into hoarding per se, although I'd say I'm creeping up on it. Especially with custom / Marauders stuff; I have a ton of spare parts that I haven't sat down and assembled because I just don't have the display space.
But I think the line is that you'd gladly display your collection if you had the funding / space to do so. Which is where I am; I'd LOVE to have all of the unique modern-era Joes (EG, leaving army-builders and slight repaints in the box), at least, on display, but I'd need another Billy and I'd start pushing out into the man cave proper, which I doubt the wife would appreciate. |
