I think O-ring with wrist and ankle pivot would be more than good enough for me. The wrist pivot is really because O-ring stuff tends to hold the weapons at odd angles.

This 2002 Snake Eyes has that O-ring POA with wrist swivel and up-and-down ankle hinge. Feels flexible but not unwieldy or fiddly:

In 1/18 scale (between 3 3/4" and 4") the level of articulation that is ideal would be similar to what the following manufactures/brands have done (not in any particular order):
1. Joy Toy 2. Hiya Toys (Predator, Aliens, RoboCop) 3. Hasbro (G.I. Joe Modern Era, Movie Editions, 50th Anniversary and Retro, Star Wars Vintage Collection, Marvel Movie Editions) 4. Jada Toys (RoboCop) 5. Marauder Task Force 6. Jazwares/Wicked Cool Toys (Halo Infinite) |

Those modern era Stalkers / Grunts / Troopers were pretty much perfect for me. I don't REALLY need the swivel hips, but it's a nice touch.
The Hiya / Joytoy stuff is nice, but their method of articulation always feels a bit flimsy, as though you're risking it falling apart at any time. |

Toy Biz Marvel Legends really put things into perspective when it came to articulation for me. So I hold that up to a standard for most figures. SH Figuarts are also pretty well articulated as well as Figmas. Still, holding up Marvel Legends as the standard for articulation is pretty acceptable in my book.

I think the o-ring figures have the perfect level of articulation that works with playability. They typically can be moved/posed easily, and usually have a good hold on their accessories. Some of the newer o-ring figures to come out in the past few years have additional points of articulation at the wrist that helps with posing weapons more realistically. But these are still toys that can be played with as toys.
When the 25th stuff started coming out, the extra articulation was initially exciting to see, but the difficulties in holding accessories in a lot of cases as well as the stiffer articulation movement requiring firmly holding the figure to re-pose made them only really good for taking photos. They were never as resilient as the o-ring figures were. And that kind of carried over into the Classified stuff - it's almost a chore to pose those guys. Don't get me wrong - they look great in photos, and if that's all you do with your figures is display and photo shoots, then that would be the ideal level of articulation. But if you're actually playing with this stuff, then the o-ring figures are the way to go in my opinion
