Yeah, you know, it sorta does depend on the property for me too. Like, I dig the Retro Star Wars guys, but I have no intention of picking up any other 5 POA figures.

I am with the others who the vintage o-ring POA as the ideal. ME articulation is good but goes a little overboard and the softer plastic is not ideal.

I will get into a phase of wanting star wars storm troopers/pilots to become part of my Cobra forces and end up buying a small army. I get them and the 5 POA just totally kills the figures for me so I end up losing money and selling them on ebay for cheap. I've done this three or 4 times lol.

It depends of the figure. A lot of figures 5 poa is fine. Others need more, even in the same line.
A Death Star Gunner or Tarkin who are going to sit or stand cool. Darth Maul need a lot more.
Thinking of Star Wars, my absolute minimum would be 3. Two arms and a way to sit/stand. The Child doesn't really need more does he?
I guess in summary its case by case.

I keep seeing Star Wars as an example, and it's made me re think my original post some. Its definitely line-specific, my Star Wars preference is a MAX of 5 POA. Take that with a grain of salt, though- I went through SW fatigue in the mid-nineties and never came back (it never went away to feel proper nostalgia for), so I only have any interest in the original figures.

A figure that can't hold his weapon with two Hands. That's really too bad, even for the collectors that just like to stand These figures up on their shelves. I'm sure they would prefer to stand him up with two Hands gripping his weapon, a basic figure who cannot hold his weapon in 2 hands, that is certainly the way forward........

imaginext has this articulation. ball joint shoulders, swivel neck, one post for the legs. i bought a few extras when getting them for my toddler because they scale up to 3.75" without much if any modification.

If a figure only has 5 points but is awesome looking I would get it.

The same thing for a favorite character.

If that character has never been released Ill get it.

This goes for all the above even if it has no movement at all.

Will trade multiples from my haves for the Scarlet and/or Biggles Jones figures from Crossover Set. Same with Fss 5.0 Jane, FSS 6.0 Dojo, Retaliation Red Ninjas, and Hiya Colonial Marine Figures

My preference is the Marauder articulation, with the BFS head articulation.

I would prefer not to have additional shoulder articulation, as it seems to make the shoulders wider and have gaps in the shoulder. I would prefer to not have the BFS torso articulation. I don't find it very beneficial while posing.

Minimum articulation requirement in order for me to purchase a figure (custom fodder not included):

ARAH O-RING level articulation (minus the swivel waist).

Preferred level of articulation:

Lanard Corps! ELITE Titan figure. It's basically a modern update of the ARAH design.
I think Zica Toys action figure designs are a close 2nd to Lanard but I prefer the single knee hinge over double and don't *need* ankle hinges. I do prefer Zica toys solid swivel waist though.

The ARAH design is all that's needed for a functional true action figure. Anything beyond that increases the chance of breakage (of the figure aesthetics or the figure itself). Hip articulation that doesn't allow a figure to at least slightly widen its stance is a toy crime outside of toys for children under 6 years old.
