The place i worked before, i was the parts manager there and we would get somewhere in the area of 180 cargo containers a year from both China and Vietnam, when the previuos president decided to have a trade war with China the tariffs went through the roof so we transferred most of our orders to Vietnam, the tariffs were a fraction of the cost and they did just as good work.

Last Joe stuff I bought, the 4 inch Retro line, was tagged Vietnam, guess the manufacturing didn't work out if they are already moving to India.
Jazzwares is still making 4" Fortnite in China and are able to sell the product in the $10-$12 range which was 1 to 2 dollars cheaper than Retro Joes. Hasbro must be trying to pinch every penny possible under Cox that they have to keep moving markets for cheaper labor and still increase the prices. If smaller companies can pay a license fee for a property and Chinese workers a higher wage and still charge a way lower price for similar product Hasbro is making in a cheaper country with way less quality plastic something is really f'd up with Hasbro. Hasbro cutting so much quality in their toys and constantly moving manufacturers to save pennies to pay out investor dividends is going to be the death of them if something doesn't change fast. They are doing the same thing Toybiz was doing with their Toylines right before it went under. I can see a sell off of some brands or splitting of WOTC from Hasbro soon if the licensing deals with other companies don't bring in major profit. Last edited by sisco; 01-16-2024 at 12:43 PM.. |

Moving to India is a very bad idea. I've been hearing that India is high growth economy for at least 2 decades, with several companies from other sectors investing there, but the advancements in terms of logistics, roads, welfare, ports, railways etc is almost none. Indian government continues to spend their money on other things like space exploration, defense and other sectors that promote the visibility and power of the country and nothing else. Continues to be a very 2 sided country, you have the rich which normally have degrees and have jobs in multinational companies or state and you have the extremely poor. It's good for manufacture no doubt but without a backbone infrastructure won't work. The way the article was written it seems like they will start production and expect all other infrastructures to come later, which is totally the opposite of what is normally done. You invest in a country after assessing not only costs but also the logistics infrastructure behind it. Plus if things were being diverted to the black market in China, expect this to happen a lot more in India.
