... What is the plasma made of?
…If, say, nitrogen, what is it surrounded by? Also nitrogen! …So, heating up a blob of nitrogen, shoving electrons into it so it can be magnetically contained, then shoving it through more nitrogen which is not hot or ionized, without heating it, but instead delivering energy to the target, is…difficult. Use of something like Silver, a bit better, but. Power. It’s always about relative power. The amount of energy delivered in a single gunpowder charge, exceeds the capacity, in terms of amps of output required by a battery, than most very very large lithium batteries, due to how fast it’s delivered. Large being relative sizes to the amount of propellant burned. And that’s just kinetic acceleration of a metal object. Basically, you wind up with things that look like two arcade cabinets tethered together. But replace the arcade cabinet with a power source, and the tether to the gun with a cable at least 2 inches thick, along with the second arcade cabinet running coolant to it. …Perhaps not QUITE that excessive, but. Energy is energy. The more concentrated power one has available, the more risk it is to have laying around if someone suddenly decides that today is ‘shoot everything’ day. Lastly: it would set fire to everything. See California as to why this miiiiiight be a bad thing. Plus, such would likely be very EM noisy, and be a very rapid target for autonomous kabooom drones to home in on in any environment they were likely to be deployed in by the time they were actually ready to be handed out enmasse. Did I mention, setting fire to everything? Unless one is a barbarian, pyromaniac, or an enchanter named tim, typically setting random fires everywhere around you while fighting is considered a bit unacceptable. |

Any environment in which which a serious future shooting war takes place between near-peer belligerents is going to be so inundated in ECM as to make drones entirely useless.

part of my frustration with lanard is i love everything about time travel combat. terminator is my all time favorite franchise (dark fate
never happened) but the way lanard is handling their story and it's spotty distribution you need a time machine to put it all together. |

I did too, although I don't remember if I watched the last few episodes of it. Something I definitely want to lookup and watch again sometime.
