It might be more akin to buying an expensive hand made Jacket crafted in and shipped from Italy but arrives with a defective zipper...... What do you do then? Ship it back and ask for a refund? Go the Analog Toys route where you demand a refund and keep the jacket? Do you find a work around or stop-gap solution or discern a permanent solution?
Your action might be dictated by the jacket itself. If the jacket is underwhelming, the fit is off or the sleeves are too short, whatever, you might lean one way. However if the jacket is superb, perfect fit, looks great, feels amazing, then you might lean another way. Some of the responses and expectations are likely reflections of the individual's experience. To me a loose isn't a big deal comparatively. Last month I spent a week troubleshooting and repairing a Isotope-ratio Mass Spectrometer, which probably cost $500k and made by a small company in London. It's not fun to go to the lab at 3am so I can conference call the techs in the UK, but it beats the alternative of shutting down the lab and suspending research for 6 months if we chose to ship it back to the manufacturer. In comparison a loose friction joint is nothing. If we're being honest, then it depends on how the knee is put together. If the screw directly threads into the knee joint and you can see the screw head rotating as the knee is manipulated then yes it may back off a bit over time. How much time is the kicker. Fixing it once every 5 years is one thing, fixing it monthly or weekly is something else. Alternatively, if the screw threads into an anchor and bushing set up then a one time fix is all that may be required. This should be disdiscernable if the knee is manipulated but the screw head doesn't move. I agree that ratchet joints in the knees, ankles and hips (maybe shoulders too) would have been the preferred route. I wish I could be a fly on the wall in those discussions. Were ratchet joints proposed and ultimately rejected, if so, why? Or were they never on the table at all? Should they be plastic or die cast joints? I'm curious if there is a lot of collaboration among the designers and engineers of different lines or are they largely compartmentalized? It would seem like the common sense no brainer to have them talk especially considering how similar the load requirements on joints are for the Sentinels/Galactus and Titan Class transformers. But we are talking about a corporation, and one can never underestimate the lack of common sense in a hierarchy. Edit: I'd advise caution while tightening the screw. Maybe turn 15° then check the tension on the knee. If the screw mates to a metal threaded insert then you can safely crank on it, less likely. If the screw is threading into plastic (more likely) then getting too aggressive can strip the threads and your state of FUBARage goes up considerably. This guy pretty much states the same thing about a lack of ratchet joints being the major glaring issue comparing them to Titan Class TF design specs as a solution..

My last job I supported a lab environment consisting of a Mass Spectrometer, Titrators, GC, & LC's. So I get what you're saying. :-) For me personally it's not a technical issue to tighten a screw on a high end toy. My point is, I (We) shouldn't have to. And I agree about the design team collaboration defiantly should have happened..

Servicing GCs kept me busy for quite a few years, and was quite happy to move to mass specs. It didn't hurt that the training required extra travel and I got to find new diners and dive bars around the country. |

I agree with the "shouldn't have to...", but it's tempered with "wish in one hand and shit in the other..." I'm geared towards finding solutions, and endlessly repeating the is probably more irksome than it should be. Plus, I may have been a bit heated because the AnalogToys/Retroblasting types always annoy the piss out of me with their myopic and hypocritical views.

I'm going into the HasLab thing with a wait & see approach because I have 2 Sentinels & 1 Galactus invested in this. But I do understand if people get pissed too.

I think the loose hips/knees/ankles complaint can bleed over into just about any Hasbro product discussion. From the waist up I rarely have problems. The bottom half could definitely use a quality control bump across the board.
I'm holding out for a 5 points Sentinel and Galactus to go with their 3.75" retro line. Those wouldn't be as big and they'd also be more shelf stable. Nor would they have electronics, which was probably my top consideration. Maybe I just viewed all my battery-operated toys growing up as being intrinsically more fragile than the ones without. |

@ anyone who has one in hand- how wide are these guys? I have to disassemble my Legends shelving and reconfigure it, obviously the old box for the MU Sentinel isn't going to cut it.

I must admit, I'm a bit mystified as to why they feel the need to include electronics with these. It's a feature I'll likely check out upon opening, followed by pulling the batteries out and putting it on a shelf. Considering the target audience, I'd imagine I'm in the majority there.
I love love love light up features!! I'm kind of bummed that the Razorcrest won't be lighting up (and neither does my slave one). I routinely light up my TVC Millennium Falcon, Sand Crawler, Hot Toys Tony Stark, Neca 18" Iron Man, Arc Reactor, BS LightSaber, and CW Turbo Tank. I also have all of my shelves wired with various lights. Hell, I even installed lighting in my 1992 GI Joe Headquarters. It's like Christmas 365 days a year in my toy room. Quote:
Yeah my buddy ordered 3 also (one for me), and nothing yet. I had no idea that the Haslabs ship this far apart. The first ones started arriving about what, 20 days ago?

I watch AnalogToys/Retroblasting rants to get the their perspectives even if I don't agree with them. Being a IT guy, I'm solutions driven as well.
