I’ve been working through but honestly Manhattan is so empty that it’s probably one of the safest places to be, honestly it’s like “Escape from New York” in Manhattan. If my hair gets any longer I may just get the eye patch. I don’t not look like Kurt Russel anyway, lol. Also all of the shops and store fronts are boarded up. Only a handful of delis and chain fast food spots, liquor stores, supermarkets and hardware stores are open. I worked through 9/11, the black out and hurricane Sandy, but I’ve never seen NYC like this. Frankly I’m aware of how fortunate I am to still be working so I have zero complaints, but am finding that I have to bring lunch these days. The busses are free right now and the trains are empty. Despite the entire NYC MTA running on a weeekend reduced schedule and no express trains, I’m makeing good time commuting due to how vacant everything is. I live in a small beach neighborhood off of Jamcia Bay (for all you Cockrum/John Byrne X Men fans). It’s all small private houses like you’d see on the Amity island in Jaws, and don’t know of anyone in my neighborhood who’s gotten I’ll. It’s 4th generation here, all of our grandfathers were in WWII together, etc so I’d know. Most of those who have passed from the pandemic seem to live in the more urban/ overly crowded parts of the city further inland. Sadly it seems to be the folks who live in buildings with 20+ apts per floor as opposed to 4-8 that the nicer buildings have, on top of a higher rate of undiagnosed existing conditions that are suffering the most. The sandy soil and high water table where I live keeps such buildings a good mile from me. My daughter is going stir crazy, but we’re all good here. I got the Amazon exclusive X Men box set (issues 1- through about 184 , around the Fall of the Mutants) so I have plenty of vintage reading to keep me busy. I’ve been keeping my bass guitar right by my computer desk so if I find myself getting a bit edgy I rock out a little Anesthesia or Phantom of the Opera and I’m chill. Compared to so many that are suffering from this in one way or another I’d be remiss if I uttered a syllable of a complaint.

Fascinating man. Thanks for all the details. Meanwhile, in rural Florida, people have been acting as if nothing is going on. Some Hoarding and layoffs yes, and no school or in door dining, but aside from that, its kind of been business as usual. I look at the virus stats for NYC, and it's terrible.

I'm glad to hear that you and your family are well and life hasn't taken a drastic turn for you. I've heard some speculate that NY is chalking any death with suspicious symptoms up to the Covid, inflating the number, but I also know a bunch of coworkers who have had elderly family pass away from it. About 4 elderly moms and dads in my shop alone as well as 5 guys on my job (in different shops than mine but all in NYC) so contrary to the speculation I know of about 9-10 people who actually did pass due to the illness. Three guys actually tested positive in my shop, we suspect more had it but didn't have access to the tests. Luckily I only work with one partner and we work on projects that no one else is allowed to touch so my exposure in the shop was, thankfully, very limited. I'd assume it's the fact that many people use mass transit here, even the upper middle class workers. Only the wealthiest don't. Mass transit is not looked down upon here, it's actually hip and considered a badge of honor to be in the trenches so I feel that propelled the illness with increased exposure.

One last photo here. Also, there are a few no Star wars figures hanging out at the Spaceport: a Lego 1980's spaceman, Tyrion Lannister, and Star Lord (not all visible in the same photo).

I'm loving your set ups!
The Poe X-wing is so nice, I want to score another one. I'm hoping they do the black or blue color scheme if they roll it out again. Megolopolis Toys had them on sale for like $55, but I missed out. |
