I just opened up and put together their first true 1/18 mech and I am...meh about it. I have loved the line from the start and haven’t had the complaints that most people have had (strangely a lot of people who own zero Joy Toy figure complain the loudest, but that’s a topic for another time), but this is the first time I’ve had a less than stellar feeling about it.
After it’s put together, it’s great, but it’s supremely annoying to set up. They included a bunch of soft goods that strap the armor plates to the mech and they don’t tighten fully and the clips are microscopic. I get what they were going for, but it doesn’t make sense in the real world to have a 30’ mech where a tech has clip a bunch of armor plates and chest rigs on. Why not just have those welded on from the get go? I like their 1/24 mechs and use them as 1/18 assault droids vs a mech that a human has to sit in. I love their line and have 4 ‘bots that I incorporated into my 1/18 world. Either way, it’s not a bad mech, just glad I payed the slightly lower cost for it through Locker vs BBTS. |

I actually spent the better part of an hour putting the mech together last night, too, PFC Hudson.
I feel pretty much the same way about it. Once it's put together, it looks great. But manipulating those small straps and clips was one of the most frustrating and finnicky experiences I've had with Joy Toy so far. (On a sidenote, I wish I could get more of those straps and clips for webgear on customs lol) |

Is there a reason you don't consider the Freeman a true 1/18 mech? Maybe you weren't aware of it: |

I have 3 of the smaller scale ones and I like those more for some reason. Maybe because they have slightly more detailing? I don’t know. Here is my Joy Toy Mech shelf minus the new one: Last edited by PFC Hudson; 12-18-2021 at 05:06 PM.. |

I was intrigued by it thinking it would be much larger than the 1/24 scale mechs. I thought it would be designed similar to the steelbone mechs and house the pilot inside the torso. The pilot backpack is a bit disappointing.
For pilots I've been taking cheap chap mei/Lanard figures customizing them to fit inside the 1/24 cockpit. Storywise they are quadriplegic soldiers who are given a new body, and essentially hard wired into the mech. |

That's probably the smarter way to go. The Zeus mechs are easy to fit with a 1:18 scale figure, but the steelbone cockpit is way more difficult

You can get a full size 1/18 figure in it? Have any photos?
