We must be in some of the same FB groups as that recently popped on my radar too. Very cool but I can't do interviews where someone has a smoke detector low battery chirp going off.

Not likely as I'm not on Facebook. I've been watching a lot of diorama and terrain building videos as I plan out what I want to do with the toy room as home renovations are completed.

Only JoyToy stuff I got on 11/11 was a solitary three-pack of military guys. The Warhammer stuff just isn't interesting, AND it's overpriced in comparison to the usual JoyToy lines.

Overpriced compared to the regular JoyToy figures? Somebody didn't pass high-school math class on their first try.
Price wise the much larger WH40K figures are coming evenly priced with the normal sized 1/18 figures. I just got my Spartan Squad 3-pack in yesterday. $110, so each figure is ~$33 each. The Black Templar Crusaders and Tau Fire Warriors are both 4-packs retailing for $100 putting each figures at $25 each. The Heavy Intercessors are $33 each while the Kung Fu figures are $36. Additional Heavy units like the Eradicators are priced similarly to the Sorrow Expeditionary Power Armor units at $44 vs $49. Accessories per figure seem about equal across the board, while the smaller figures win out in terms of paint apps per $ spent. The mechs also price out fairly evenly if not in WH40K's favor. The Rededemptor Dreadnoughts cost $120 each compared to $145-150 for the FEAR 06 and Sorrow Expeditionary mechs. You don't really see a price disparity until you compare a figure like Castellan Crowe to a 1/25 scale mech like the Steel Bone or Iron Wrecker. In those cases the mech are the real bang for your buck winners. But then the the new 1/18 Z8 Assault Mecha is $65 compared to Crowe's $70, and the Z8 is no where near as impressive as a Steelbone. I've been collecting JoyToy for a few years now and have been quite impressed with the quality and price point of the WH40K compared to the Dark Source and Battle for the Stars lines. The prices are very close especially when considering how massive the Ultramarines are compared to more traditional 1/18 figures. |

I don't know where you're getting your stuff from, but on Aliexpress I usually wind up with the "basic" military types for far closer to $20 / figure.
My Spartan Squad three pack was $62... Canadian. Admittedly on sale, but even then regular price was CAD$93 so I have no idea where the hell you're getting $110, presumably USD, from. I guess having a masters in Economics lets me shop a bit smarter. Maybe upgrade your high school math before talking shit. Last edited by GeoffDes; 11-22-2022 at 07:01 AM.. |

I guess having a masters in Economics lets me shop a bit smarter. Maybe upgrade your high school math before talking shit. The Set is 80 US dollars currently in U.S.D. on Ali Express discounted right now. Canadian dollars are 75% of a USD so it should be 107 Canadian dollars on your end currently. Is that not true? Does Ali Express charge different prices depending on your country? Wouldn't surprise me, but is it? EDITED: EDITED: EDITED: 11/22/2022 Dude, this AliExpress website. The more I dig, the less I like. I'll keep digging, but there's a reason it's cheaper besides just below cost cash pre-order swapping. It's just a Chinese middle Man website for Tao Bao. Without Buyer protections. Written with poor Spaghetti code. And terrible Customer service with Easily faked Reviews. Wtf. >>>What happens if it arrives broken? >>>> Or it's the wrong thing? >>>>>>>>> Or they send nothing. Besides the official JoyToy seller (which I can't verify, I can't trace the original Tao Bao store IDs anymore.) selling their own pre-sales, exactly, who else can you trust on this website? Basically, lost mail, broken merchandise, unshipped orders and half-assing it is a big risk, you're on your own and that's if you buy it from the right store. The wrong store will just steal your money, and it's a pre-sale so they don't even have to ship it immediately, which is even more nail biting to keep track of. Maybe I'll try it to see what I get, but the low costs are just hiding the much higher risks and actual costs you're not seeing and that's before I calculate shipping, Tax costs associated and any potential hidden arrival Import Taxes. Oh I see.
Yeah looking into it, without those initial timed pre-order discounts and the Premium Member discount it's +15%-25% higher priced. The Spartans are still discounted heavily compared to normal and they seem to all be pre-sales. Some of those Ali Express guys are trading their initial pre-orders for cash, so honestly, would not surprise me if it was 62 Canadian back then, if someone was that strapped for cash, they could be selling below cost. In part because you need to pay cash for the initial pre-order hence the pre-order discount. |
