I'm new to the scene and see the various lines and kickstarters from the likes of Marauders and Boss Fight, but I'm confused about a few things and not sure where to find answers so figured I'd ask here.
Many of the sets I've seen on KS from Marauders look unfinished/unpainted. Is that how they come or just early prototype shots and the actual products are finished and detailed figures? I'm looking for finished product. Camo painted, articulated, geared-up SOCOM/JSOC-style troopers with authentic camo, gear, weapons. Rangers/Delta, SEALs, SAS/GIGN/GSG Euro, Spetsnaz, maybe some Vietnam-era LRRP or frogmen. Do such sets of figures exist, or only the raw materials molded that require a customizer to actually assemble and/or paint? I'd like to have squads of special forces in a small scale like that for desk or cabinet display but not sure if it is something that's available or where to start. Thanks in advance for any guidance! |

Check out this site https://www.marauderinc.com/mobile/default.aspx
They should have what you're looking for. Some of the better cameo figures and weapons are out of stock but they should restock them sometime this year. |

Thanks for the link. Lots of stuff there! They do look pretty good, more collectible than toy, which is good.
Seems to be mostly accessories and gear pieces on that site for customizers to use? Poking around I'm not seeing much in the way of completed figures of the kind I mentioned in the topic post. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right part of their site? Last edited by edgecrusher; 01-17-2018 at 03:17 AM.. |

Thanks in advance for any guidance! The attached is an image from one of their kickstarters. You can build any of these figures, just by buying the buck and the accessories and mashing the parts together. Quote:

You will want to buy accessories separately if you buy one of the $12 of $13 basic bucks. The Deluxe figures, have a ton of accessories and I buy as many as I can when they put them out. To me, I think they are the best value, outside of the kickstarters. I would recommend buying one to get a good range of accessories. The current male Engineering Ops isn't the best color for some, but the female Flight Ops is great for most I would think. |

A little addendum to the above: most of the figures they sell with accessories aren't what you call "complete" in the sense of representing a specific look--Marauder doesn't sell very many "complete" pre-designed figure builds. Instead, the "deluxe" figures include a large quantity of various parts that you can choose from to customize the look you want--more than you will need for a single figure. Which is great if you want the best value and plan on buying more figure bodies to use up the extra parts, though you may also wind up with stuff you don't immediately need. Note that the vests and helmets will fit onto many other brands of 1:18 and 3.75'' figures, so even if you have extras that your MTF figures don't need, other figures could feasibly make use of them.

Marauder figures are extremely nice and very high quality. They have such a good variety that it should be easy to piece together the look you want. The problem is that some of the designs tend to look futuristic, with things like armor plates stuck on. Likewise, very few G.I. Joes look like real soldiers. They often have a comic book sci-fi aesthetic.
I would recommend you look for Elite Force or BBI products. They tend to focus on more grounded, real-world military themes. I don’t think the figures are as nice, but the prices are very reasonable. Retaliation Ultimate duke body with Maruader Task Force accessories and different head sculpts would accomplish creating a squad of modern army rangers.

Thanks for all the feedback!
The Elite Force figures have the right camo paint schemes but seem much more limited in articulation, more toy-like than collectible. Interesting idea to take Joe bodies and accessorize them with MTF. Trying to stay away from having to customize (let alone paint) anything myself or have to commission work but I'll keep that option in mind. Guess there isn't a product right now that really combines the two with the best of both worlds from the factory, then? Last edited by edgecrusher; 01-17-2018 at 02:33 PM.. |

I'll caution against trying to use MTF gear on Joe bodies. The MTF bucks have more girth than Joe figures do, which means MTF gear often fits loose and looks bad on Joe bucks. MTF stuff is great, but their web gear is not generally Joe-compatible as-is.
As for an "off-the-rack" option, you can check Ali Express. They have some modern military figures in 1:18 scale that are pretty well articulated. I just can't vouch for the accuracy of the camo pattern, which is something you keep mentioning. I also have no clue how sturdy these are or if their quality control sucks. This is as close as I can get you to what you're asking about. If you want something hyper accurate to real world present-day soldiers in 1:18 scale with full articulation to, for example, display with your kit-built super accurate model of a tank then I am not aware of anything that fits that bill completely.

Good to know, thanks. lol @ the "kit-built super accurate model of a tank"!
Nothing like that, fortunately, just looking for office desk toys more than anything. Something that's fun to pose and mess around with but looks like real world military. Seems like MTF or customized Joes are the best option. |
