Update: Just over a week ago I posted that I had placed an order directly with Wei Weihua. Today, my figures arrived. For the record, that's 15 days from my initial email to Mr. Wei (4/12) to the receipt of merchandise (4/27). I bought 4 figures--two at $30 and two at $35--and paid $48 shipping, so basically paid $45/figure.
I've only just unboxed them, but they were well-packed and look great! He also through in a bunch of extra gear at no additional charge. If there's any interest, I can share pics and more info about the order process. |

I emailed him at [email protected] saying I wanted to order some of his figures. Within 24 hours, he emailed me photos of currently available figures. It was a small selection of 7 figures and an accessory pack. Nothing that hasn't been available in the past, but a good assortment of options. He asked me to provide a list of which figures I wanted and my address, so he could provide a shipping estimate. I sent him my order and address and then nothing for 5 days. Finally, I got a response with a total cost, including shipping, and his PayPal account info. (I had read he only accepts payments via Alipay, which would have been much trickier to deal with, but that has apparently changed.) I sent payment through PayPal and within a couple of minutes he emailed to confirm receipt of payment. (From here on communication was quick and thorough, mostly confirmations back and forth.) He requested I confirm my shipping info, which I did, and within 12 hours, he sent me shipping confirmation and a tracking number. The shipping company, SF International, estimated delivery by May 5, but they arrived today. Across the board, super smooth and easy. |

So, here's how I placed my order:
But I gotta say this is a weird way to run a toy company. He's sitting on what could easily be the hottest 4" toy property going. He's clearly a really talented artist and that's where his strengths lie. He's expressed frustration at the factory production process to the point of sounding like he was almost giving up. And then he decides to sell figures one by Hotmail and PayPal? It makes no sense. He should focus on the creative and design sides, while partnering up with an established toy company to handle the manufacturing and distribution. It reminds me of Acid Rain, which was also led by an artist who tried to do everything through a tiny start-up company with a former colleague. After a few years, he finally decided to partner up with a big company and since then the product has been flowing faster and smoother than ever. I just don't get why Wei Wei Hua is putting so much effort into prototypes and big displays at toy shows in China, without sorting out how to actually get these produced and distributed in a professional way. Maybe he's the type of artist who needs to control the whole process and can't let go of any it. But it's madness. I love the designs and am normally very supportive of independent toy start-ups. But c'mon, really? It's been what, 4 or 5 years now. And this is still where he's at. I'll start taking PGV seriously if/when he gets serious about making toys. |

Accepting PayPal is a nice upgrade. Last time I emailed him he only used AliPay.

I’ve bought from him twice this way. Last time he had just switched to PayPal. It’s really not a feasible way to buy toys. I doubt I’ll do it again. Just don’t have the time. I’m glad for the people who can do it on a regular basis.
