These toys are shit, and I hate them.
This deserves some clarification: First, these toys are shit and they are purposefully shit. And I get it. They are shooting for a nostalgic 70's throwback look. So, you know, whatever floats your boat. I suppose there are some ironic hipster types out there that appreciate that aesthetic. But that's not why I hate them. I hate them because they have the rights to some fucking amazing figures: Predator, Back to the Future, Firefly, Breaking Bad. The list goes on. I would pay an arm and a leg if these same characters were offered with GI Joe style construction and made to modern BFS level quality. But they're not. They got the rights to make some of the most desirable characters, and they squander it on these cheap shit 5-POA 70's retro nonsense sculpts. What a goddamned waste. |

I met this vendor at a fleamarket once that was reselling them. He acted like they were the greatest toys ever made. My reaction to him was almost identical to your post. When I see people actually spending money on these I just cringe thinking that it sends the message that these are of a qulaity toy buyers will accept. While some will, I most definitely will not. The same is true of the 5 poa Star Wars figures. The sculpts of these figures actually look nice, but the limited articulation kills it for me. What a huge step back from the toys of 2007-2012.

Eh, to each their own. You really think someone's gonna pick up licenses for these properties and spend a ton of money engineering hyper-articulated toys for what's realistically a dubious payoff? Besides, we don't know what these licensing agreements are. It's highly likely Funko doesn't hold exclusive rights and some other company could also license the same properties and produce exactly the figures you want, but there just isn't a sound financial reason to do so.
In the end, whatever. Some like, some don't. Me, I think The Corps! figures are pure shit. I don't like how they look, don't like their articulation (or lack thereof) and don't like their "backstory." But I don't go about knocking them because: A.) I realize they're toys, B.) I understand that people have different perspectives and likes than I, and C.) none of this shit affects my daily life. Last edited by SmokeBellew; 02-12-2017 at 06:10 PM.. |

I agree with all you guys. I hate 5 pt figs, but some folks love them. I love super articulated figs that are made in high quality. Joe and Star Wars (and some Marvel Universe) are my collecting proclivity, especially Joe! Jedi figs are cool like the releases of the Malgus, Plagueis and Revan just make collecting great!

I agree...and disagree. To the extent that the licenses are bound to the ReAction line, I'd be bummed. But they did the Alien figures first, and there are no shortage of Alien figures in multiple sizes and articulation. And what would I say to the man offering me a Joe-scale and articulated Jack Burton figure? I'd say yes sir, the check is in the mail!
But for $10 bucks, I have Jack ("Who?" - "Jack Burton - me!") in a sweet blister hanging on my wall above my autographed photo of James Hong and the matching Lo-Pan figure. And that makes me pretty happy, despite my dream preference. "INDEED!" |

I understand what the Funko people were going for. These are essentially art pieces that are meant to remain in package and hanging on a wall or something. They look similar to the 90 Kenner figures that I bought when I was a kid.
But their higher end figures are on the garbage side too. In particular, their Game of Thrones figures. Sure, they LOOK nice in the box... but they're are flimsy as shit! I bought Jon Snow on 2 different occasions and both figures broke about 5 minutes after removal from the package. Their joints are molded in clear plastic for some odd reason. And as we all know, clear plastic is weaker than solid colored plastics. I returned my Jon Snows and never bought another GoT figure. The company also does shady shit as far as their blind boxed figurines go too. They purposely shortpack the most desired characters forcing people to buy more. If they were 2 or 3 dollars each..than whatever.. BUT these Mystery Minis are upwards to almost 8 dollars each! And some guys are packed 1/72!!! only 12 come in a typical box of mystery minis, so even if you buy multiple cases of them, you're still not guaranteed to get the desired figure. Who is also usually the most popular character. Case in point, their horror mystery minis collections. Pinhead, and Patrick Bateman, who are very desired characters and FEATURED CENTER ON THE FRONT OF THE BOXES!! are usually packaged 1/72. That kind of shady nonsense is why I no longer collect most of their stuff. Their Pop heads though are made plentiful and clog up shelves everywhere.

I liked the Alien figures because of what they were. Unreleased toys that were at one point actually going to be released. And I like the waves of Alien figures that came after. Beyond that, I don't like the other figures and I don't collect them. It was a good idea that has gotten out of hand. The other lines aren't even the same quality as the Alien figures that started the whole thing in the first place.

I haven't gotten any of the 5poas, but I nabbed the 9poa GoTs Night King, White Walker, and Ygritte off Amazon for $7 each in anticipation of upgrading them for inclusion with the coming FantaHACKS. I'm pissed by how they *deliberately* made the NK a shitty figure. His skirt comes down far enough that his knees only bend like 15° at most, and there's an insert piece between the forearm and hindarm that could have enabled hindarm swivel if the peg had simply been shaped differently.
They're like Mattel in that they're assholes that deliberately make their figures less playable to fit some lame-ass aesthetic. |

I mostly agree, especially with the idea that this company got the licenses for many franchises I've wanted since I was a child. I bought some of these knowing I'd probably never get anything else in this scale, but I absolutely wish they at least had CORPS levels of articulation and sturdiness.
