The packaging and figure were first unveiled @ the NYCC 2009...
Here's a closeup hi-def pic: Action Figure Insider Galleries: Mail-Away Nick Fury! Now... why does his big gun have no place for the bullets to come out of? Maybe it's a laser gun? |

Two interesting points.
1. Instead of it being an incentive to buy toys (and thus put dollars in Hasbro's pockets), it's an incentive for Marvel. This must have been in the contract. This really must chap hasbro, because they might find it hard to sell that 3rd Johnny Storm variant, but put a mailaway or build a figure and the game changes. There will be some sort of BAF/rescue doc with this line- those unique computer codes have some purpose 2. Before we start dogging the online subscription, do we know if it includes back-issues or retired titles? I think many tankers would pony up $25 for the figure and the complete marvel run of Joe/ transformers vs joe. A movie will run you $10 for 2 hours, and this subscription service if done well could be a steal. (3-4 bucks per comic for IDW run). Yes, there is nothing physical when your subscription runs out, but you have nothing to store either. Just something to marinate on. |

I'm not mad about this, I just don't have any interest in a stupid on-line subscription.

Just something to marinate on. Even if it includes back issues I don't know if Marvel has distrobution rights for the old Joe comics, (they certainly don't have exclusive rights since Hasbro has them, and has also sold them to IDW), but you might be able to get some cool silver age super hero stuff out of the deal.

I posted this in the Marvel Universe 3.75" thread, but it may help out here too.
I've had a Marvel Digital Comics subscription for 8 or 9 months now. I work in the offshore oil field so the DCU gives me my comic fix. At $65 per year its pretty damn cheap, especially when you consider I drop $50 to $100 a month on comic books, mostly TPBs. The Digital Reader is basically a streaming PDF reader and doesn't require any additional download. There is a handful of different viewing options Two Page, and Single Page are exactly as they sound. Two pages or a single page is displayed at a time. My personal favorite is Smart Panels. A traveling window basically pans across the page magnifying the panels and text. Plus the veiw format will adjust accordingly splash pages and such. Pros: There are thousands of comics available to read. Just about every character who has had their own book is featured (The Black Panther 2005-2008 run is all online). So I can read characters I know little about or previously little interest in at no extra cost to me. (Arana is prime example) There are customizable "To Read" lists, so if you stumble on a new and interesting character then you can que him/her for later reading. A rating system allows readers to rate and review books, characters and story arcs. Cons: This thing works great on medium to high speed internet connections. Slow dial-up and satellite connections don't do so well. My biggest gripe is that Marvel might upload 9 Namor comics, so I get the first story arc and half of the second. When will they complete the series? Who Knows? But they are kind enough to tell me what TBP to buy if I want to complete the story for a modest investment. I am currently reading (and I mean reading comics in between posting) the Black Panther series from 2005-2008. 36 issues in all. Also looking at their site Amazing Spider-Man from 1963 to 1998 has 167 issues available. Most of the content is 1998 to the present, but there is older stuff too. |

I just posted this in the MU thread, but thought it belonged here as well.
Nick Fury page is live. Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited | Subscribe to Read Iron Man, Spider-Man, Hulk, X-Men, Wolverine, Thor and more Marvel Comics Online you also have to send a check for 4.99. I don't understand why you can't just fill that out online and such, instead of using a check... grrr. |
