Slowest Customizer EVER!!

After seeing the recent Marvel Legends Wolverine in person, I am seriously thinking of switching to 6" figures. Looking around online, it looks like most of the 6"figs can be had for below retail. EVERY toy line has six inch minus GI Joe.
I customize 1/18 figures, so I guess I could make GI Joes I wanted. They also seem easier to customize because finer detail would be bigger, making painting and sculpting a little easier. Plus, there are so few to buy anymore. I guess I'm just looking for any feedback. Has anyone else does this, at least partially?

I just started with the Marvel Legends 6" figs. We have a Hastings store here and they are going out of business nationally. Figures were 60% off. Granted some were higher than retail at 22.99 but some were standard $19.99. I was able to get 8 figs for $80. Not a bad day so I guess I am in on the 6" figs now.

You get a mixed bag, some people like myself would love seeing a 6" Joe line. But there are others that feel it wouldnt work despite how well the Marvel, DC and Star Wars lines are.

I collected Star Wars 6 inch for awhile, but it got expensive fast. I cut my losses and sold them all a few months ago. Im glad i did it when I did because I actually got some of my money back on those Force Awakens figures.
Overall Black Series before TFA was great, but the current ones feel cheaper and have less articulation(just like everything in tfa). As for marvel and DC stuff I would go 6 inch because both 4 inch lines are pretty bad, but I am a 4 incher through and through and wont change.

I've got nearly 30 years' worth of 1:18 scale stuff; I value compatibility with my existing collection too much, and don't want to start all over in a new scale. Although the market for collector-friendly 1:18 product is starting to become a bit smaller, it's still out there (mostly it's transitioning to the independent/small-business sector), so I'll never run out of things to buy. Plus I like playsets and vehicles, which are almost non-existent in 6'' scale. (And for the storage-space-challenged like myself, it's also helpful that 1:18 figures take up a lot less space than 6'' figures!)
And then there's the conundrum of 6'' versus 7''--yes, many popular lines of collector's figures are in 6'', but some companies (NECA, in particular) specialize in 7''. Since those aren't going to be compatible with any 6'' figures I might buy, I figure I might as well stay where I'm at with 1:18.

Even as a kid, 3.75" was the shit for me. Something about it just felt right. Maybe it was the fact vehicles were available, or that they fit my little hands better or perhaps it's simply that pretty much all the cool stuff was 3.75" (except He-Man, MASK and Super Powers). Regardless, I do this out of nostalgia. I don't buy toys just to buy toys. If it wasn't for that emotional connection to the toys of my childhood, I'd literally have zero interest in any of it.
When it comes to superhero toys, I ought to then gravitate towards a larger scale than 3.75", since Super Powers and Secret Wars were like 4.5-5", yet I don't. 6-7" are just too big for me. They take up too much space and aren't as fun for me to dick around with. That nostalgic "kick" just isn't there. Plus, at $20.00 MSRP, they're too pricey for me. Mind you, I feel the same about paying $13.00 for a 4" Legends figure and I've pretty much stopped buying superhero guys anyway, but at least I get an emotional charge out of setting up the 4" superheroes I do have next to my Joes because that was something I always wanted as a kid. |

I'm with you SmokeBellew. I grew up with 3.75 and the scale is just right for me. The 6" are just too large IMO. I liked being able to store my GI Joe collection in 2 shoe boxes as a kid and getting them all out on a table and playing with them and only taking about a quarter of the space on the table.
Now as an adult space for my stuff is even more scarce whether storing or displaying. I've tried to like 6", but in the end the only thing I like about them is the articulation. They are just not the size for me. |

Some good points up there, especially the playset point. I love playsets too.

I had tie same idea last year. But after a year I sold it all of. The 6" scale just does not lend itself to playing with my kids like the 3.75" does. Imagine a avengers vs xmen mega battle with 39-40 guys on each side. That would be impossible to do with 6"... Same with the joes. He man is the only line that I don't mind 6" because in the cartoons there were never more than 5 characters on the screen in a single episode.

I buy a few 6 inch figures here and there. Hasbro has been releasing some real beauties lately.
I collect them the same way I collect the 3.75 line. I just buy the ones I like.
