Anyone else remember these fondly? I had a bunch when I was younger and gave them away when I joined the Army. They are kinda garbage compared to what we have now, but looking at them on eBay and other places definitely has me itching to own the 12 different Cables the put out.
Anyway, I saw the Mojo figure and it looks like it would hold up with Marvel Universe figures, especially with a more detailed paint job. Just wondering if anyone else remembers this golden age. I have some of the very first ones produced still on the cards. They are packed away, but I believe I have Spider-Man, Punisher, Dr. Doom and Silver Surfer. I remember thinking they were awesome when I saw them at the comic shop.

Yep, back when you got an official Fleer trading card with the toys not just some weird, one time, micro sized comic book cover that had nothing to do with the character you bought, Hasbro!. In fact, I think I got a Spring Break Rogue with one of my figures.
Sometimes you could find them [X-many] for ten bucks at KBToys and clean up. Last edited by Hicks_Royel; 01-26-2016 at 06:21 AM.. |

Love the 90s marvel Toybiz stuff.......particularly the X-men stuff.
Some of the earlier efforts were shaky to say the least(their 1st Iron Man) but some hold up really well. The Punisher Van & Captain America Coupe still have spots on my shelving with their designated pilots. The FF, Doom, DD, Annihilus& Venom II are still faves of mine. The X Stuff I love because of the team coverage.....my fave versions of X-force & X-factor are repped. Blue Team, Gold team its all good. Classic Light ups Gambit is one of my favourite figs. Sure I had to sift through multiple versions of each character to get my X-teams right back in 02 but man.....it was worth it. Loved the Lines for Spidey,Silver Surfer, FF & IM too....fertile for characters!!! |

Pink Cannonball, Iceman, 1st edition Deadpool... I worked at Kaybee Toys when this line kicked off so I had all the "hard to find" figures... At the time I wasn't even an opener so all these things are still MOC in a huge box under the stairs. I think they are all pretty much value-less now thanks to the improvements in the action figure market- but they will always hold a special place in the 'modern' action figure world for me.

no- they're all pretty worthless... when compared to their original cost most are about even or have gone down... there was a period- prior to Toybiz launching Marvel Legends- that their value was pretty dang good- but for the most part they are... junk. (outside of nostalgia and just a love of fun action figures) And I do love this line- but there is just no market for them anymore. Which is fine, I don't think I would ever let them go.
But I guess it does all depend on what you consider 'Value'.... Deadpool V.1 is hitting about $70 for a current bid.... one figure in 100 worth more than $10 is still pretty value-less to me for the amount of room the collection takes up |

As much as popular nostalgia latches onto the 80s, I think the 90s remain horrifically under appreciated by what was accomplished and what was produced, especially in terms of new or revised brandings. In the case to Toy Biz and the Marvel lines, it really is debatable whether or not Hasbro has covered the sheer range that Toy Biz was able to leverage at the time. It is sad to think that a LOT of really cool toy lines got caught up in the speculator boom that came in when comics collapsed around 1996. Though, it makes much of that era surprisingly cheap. I still think the Star Trek collection Playmates produced stands as one of the best toy collections of that franchise, and aesthetics aside, the Star Wars stuff is pretty solid, and seemed far more adventurous than what we're apt to ever seen from Hasbro these days.

I truley love the early 90s Marvel and Xmen Toy biz lines. They definitely have a ton of nostalgic value but thats pretty much it. I had a huge collection of these as a kid but with more articulted figures being released I sold or trade most off long ago. I kept a select few and every now and again when I come across one cheap enough I consider buliding up a collection again, But I usually end talking myself out of it. Its really cool thumbing through old issues of Toyfare magazine and seeing this in the "Mugshots" and what not.
