Thanks, I finally got around to taking some pics of my customs and uploading them since I had to pack them up for a move next month. It's going to delay finishing the others until June or July possibly but when I get around to them I'll be sure to upload them.

Better Call Hasbro....Someone made some Eagle Force Gi Joes!!!!
I was just suggesting that a Eagle Force theme is better then the Tiger Force...and it would be cool to have some. Without going into leagalitys and whatnot...I'm sure your a expert in the Law when it comes to Action Figures and how can you be so sure that the rights to Eagle Force even exists anymore or that Hasbro don't already own them? Do you know that as Fact? BTW Toboro those are cool...The only thing I would change is I would of gone whit a Khaki type uniform to be more realistic that's just me though.... I totally respect that you went for accuracy toward the orginals....Props to ya Even in Gold they look better then the Tiger Farce and Puke Patrol stuff.... |

The Sgt Savage stuff kind of had a Eagle Force vibe to them.

[QUOTE=Toboro;737547]Here are some customs I made of them, I took a few liberties in updating the characters and making them less generic. I've got plans for the whole group and have already made some of the villains, I just need to finish the paint for them.
This may be my favorite thread comment ever. "Did someone say Eagle Force and G.I. Joe? BAM! Awesome customs! KABOOM!!!! Stab!" So very appropriate for such an obscure discussion that it was like a nuclear bomb to me. I think its the comment equivalent of a fatality! They are just so excellent, especially after checking out the above link that someone was kind enough to post. Just wow. Redbirds face coloring and penetrating eyes are creepily realistic, it almost looks like a human to me. And blowtorch's head with a goatee doesn't look silly anymore, this guy has character! Amazing job, despite relatively simple contriction and similar paint schemes, each one has personality! And I must insist that gold was the right way to go. You got a great shade and it would NOT be Eagle Force without insane amounts of gold. On another note, I find it hilarious that old packages emphasize the "die-cast" factor to the point that it is part of the Eagle Force name. As far as the legality of Hasbro producing these, it would never happen simply because there is no demand and little memory of this line. Although they could get around it with an homage of some sort, 99% of collectors wouldn't have any idea what the he'll they were looking at! Assuming they even thought about making one of these guys for real, it's not impossible. Since I believe these are made by a now defunct company, the characters could be up for grabs, although way too much time would have to spent tracking down remaining employees and jumping through legal loopholes to secure the rights. This is likely why we have yet to see any Thundercats toys, since LJN went bankrupt and things get messy with remianing properties being sold, different companies holding rights to distribute the animation but not owning the characters, etc, although comic books eventually came out. If hasbro, or any company for some reason had the rights, then they would not have bothered renewing a lot of the names, which are pretty generic, so many are certainly unavailable. Which is why on Trakker's card, it refers to Mobile Armor Strike Kommand, but not MASK, since that name would infringe on other companies rights. So. You're all right. Or wrong. Kinda. Except for those customs, they are like 25 kinds of right! |

Do you know that as Fact? Actually, I do know for a fact that the Mego Corporation STILL owns the copyrights to Eagle Force. While the company has closed it's doors, the Mego Corp is still an entity, at least according to the US Copyright Office.

Thanks everyone for the kind compliments, I'd seen a couple Captain Eagle customs done from ARAH style figs but not 25th style. I wanted to jump on it as soon as I could since I loved the original ones when I was a kid. Took awhile to find the right gold paint. I also felt a couple characters were way too stereotypical so I'm trying to skew them a bit while staying true to the character behind them. Some are very close to the original but with a character like Harley (white, bearded, biker dude) I felt he needed to change a bit since there is also Turk ( bald, white, goateed biker lookin dude) so I gave him a darker skintone. You'll see this on my other customs when I finish them. General Mamba isn't a fat dictator, striker and the cat don't look like each other. Big bro and Sgt Brown may or may not both be black but they definitely won't be interchangeable except for the glasses.
I have a weird mindset in regards to what I customize and how. I buy the 25th joes mainly so my son can have them to play with in a couple years (he loves ARAH figs right now and they are a little safer and sturdier). I display them all in some curios and found that by trying to get one of each individual character we ended up with 30 or so extra repeats due to Hasbro's repaints/repackage policy. I figured I could use them to recreate figures I didn't see Hasbro getting to but I wanted to make sure they wouldn't look out of place with all the other ones. This means that I limit my paint apps to what would be financially feasible for Hasbro to do. I also try to keep to only items I already have or can easily acquire. I don't want to order specialized heads, weapons or paints online. If I can't get it at Frank and Sons, TRU, Target or Walmart then it kind of defeats the purpose for me. I guess I find it fun to try to make things work with the parts I have. |
