This is a Lanard Corps! figure as of 2015
It looks good, is affordable , is present on Walmart shelves and looks fun. I was raised a Joe fan. I still buy Joe comics. I still love the Joe mythos. I do not buy Joe figures. I will buy Lanards new female figures and the new male figures when they receive the same articulation. That's my reality as a Joe fan. As a consumer with vast entertainment options i don't particularly care why Hasbro lost ground. What i care about is good product at an affordable price. If they cannot find a way to produce good product at an affordable price i'll buy it from someone who can.

Good points from everyone who has replied. I want to chime back in. Where I stand: POA is not an "end all, be all." For me it's about engaging the imagination. That's WHY I buy. Flashback: When I was a little dude, I loved the Dick Tracy figures. If we're talking POA. MAN. Dick Tracy line was BAD BAD BAD. The figures had bull-stance legs (that would easily break off), twisting heads, and awkward arms. BUT BUT BUT, they were fun. The accessories were a trip. There were two vehicles in the line. Big Boy's Getaway car and a Cop car. I guess I am bringing this up because I want collectors, and most especially, Hasbro, to remember- these. are. toys. The main audience should NOT be collectors, but kids.

True but i didn't say it was typical. Hell i don't care if it is or isn't typical . I just need it to be available and fairly priced. If Lanard releases 15 figures and only one is worth buying i'll army build that one heh. To hell with the rest. I love ARAH joe. I have tons of fond memories due to that product line. Modern Lanard Corps! (since say 2005) , excluding the female figures, are not on par with ARAH or modern joe figures and their prices reflect that . However they are sturdy ( damn near unbreakable), fun , imaginative and cool for the money and for kids. If Lanard would just give them ball jointed hips like they did the female figures they would be perfect sci fi military figures for kids available at their local big box store. Just like ARAH was for all of us when we were kids. |

Ok, 9poa thats fine. Again if Hasbro released a 9poa figure even at a lower price point the nerd rage would be unprecedented. The cartoony style that you are referring to as "fun" is one the things i dislike about the line. So i don't understand where you are getting the "fun" from the look. Thats your opinion and I disagree with it. As for the age range on the toy yes its 5+ again no arguments that it wasn't built for a two year old to play with, But my son also plays with most my toys without breaking them.
And yeah, I like the designs and I find them fun. I don't know what you like about Joes that makes them fun for you but that's your deal. Quote:
As far as affordable prices. Whats wrong with the prices $12.99 for two figures or $20 for 3. How much more affordable can you get. No other Comparable figure or brand are that low. 13 for 1 MU or DCmV at tru or target, & Sw isn't two far behind that.

As for Gi Joes core market. Its the Adult collector thats not opinon its fact. Where do you find these figures? the collector section of TRU and online only. If Hasbro was really gearing the ship toward the kid market it would have mass retail release, it would have toy commercials, it would have some type of media tie in Tv, video games, etc.
It's also worth noting that the majority of Hasbro's other brands are, as I mentioned above, umbrella brands. Look at how many sub-groups of Transformers there are. Look at their Marvel stuff and notice that they have two core brands (based on scale) and however many other brands themed around movies. Yet all GI Joe gets is continual re-paints of the same ARAH-themed figures and vehicles. Where's the GI Joe G1 line? Or the GI Joe: Battlemasters or GI Joe: Adventure Team sub-brands? Quote:
And as for the Female figure... this is one figure in a three pack. She is the only new mold (i believe) that in the whole pack hasn't been used repeatedly for the last 5years to a decade. Hell one figure in the pack is stuck in a crouching position.
I get it: you're a die-hard Joe fan and that's fine. But I think you're also missing the point that for the line to survive it's going to have to evolve and expand, because without a wider audience then there's very little chance that they're going ever grow the market. And at the end of the day, Hasbro is in the business of making money so if they're not selling toys to the largest market segment possible, they're not going to continue with the line, no matter how hardcore a base they have, as that base simply isn't large enough to make it a viable property.

There's only 1 reason we aren't getting any new Joes in the foreseeable future: STAR WARS. I can guarantee that 100% of Hasbro's action figure manufacturing capacity is busy churning out TFA figures for the next 6 months at least. And then they'll switch over to Rogue One. They're all 5 POA to hit the right price points. The only reason the current 50th wave is so cheap is they're all re-used molds.
If we're lucky we might get a few figures next autumn between Star Wars films.

If we're lucky we might get a few figures next autumn between Star Wars films. That's the problem with the way they handle Joes - Hasbro will only produce stuff when there's a movie or special event they can latch onto. And yes, of course everybody is going crazy for Star Wars stuff right now but Hasbro has kept the line pretty much going since the initial release (barring the gap between PoF 1 and 2) and since the release of Episode 1 there's been a constant presence of SW toys at retail - and The Phantom Menace came out SIXTEEN years ago and Revenge of the Sith is TEN years old...

My point was that even with only a handful of Joe figures being less articulted it turned many people off to the brand. That, although you may disagree isn't the direction Joe should be going in. I don't feel the Lanard Corps should be on Hasbros radar at all. I would love to see Gi joe be what it was in the hey days but I just don't see that happening with Hasbro looking at The corps for inspiration. In fact you are talking like Lanard has this mass retail release and is cornering the market when Walmart is the only store in my area that carries the newer figures. I think Job lot my have like one or two of the older figures in stock but nothing new. You are correct when saying Gi Joe should be an umbrella brand like Marvel, TF, SW having multiple styles and lines geared towards different audiences. But the only way to get there is getting Hasbro to recognize that Joes still warrant that spot on the shelf and the only way to do that is buying them. Not bitching and moaning about the price tag, and not leaving them to peg warm or wait for discount prices.
