Hey Guys I have been around for a while but do not really post here a lot .
For those who know me I make 1/18th scale vehicles and aircraft . The A-10 is one of the most sought after aircraft but has yet to be made. Would there be any interest on this forum ? Here is my post pulled off of some other 1/18th forums. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I just checked out a post where people pledged over $150 , 000 for red girly figures !! WOW !!!!!!!!! Back in the heyday of 1/18th scale aircraft , it was a known fact that if you had $ 150,000 you could have 3, 000 of any plane made . You could also have multi paint schemes in that 3,000 . Bad cat had some made of the P-51 I forgot what their names were but they sold them between $70-$90 An online dealer Down Under had BBI make a couple of Australian P-51s and sold them for $150 each. That was high because they were in Wal-Mart ( generic paint schemes ) for $ 39.94 . If you do the math $150,00 divided by 3,000 comes out to $50 a unit . That was back then . The BBI Pavehawk helo sold for about $ $70-$80 per unit back then . Now the new Blackhawk sells for about $160 per unit . Doubling the price from then to now. So ... doubling the $150,000 is now $ 300,000 I am guessing they still want a minimum order of 3,000. So that will be $100 a unit ( finished and painted ) cost in box. Of course I am not sure what collector would want 3,000 A-10s so I am sure that the investors would want to sell them. Probably $180- $200 per unit in fact doubling your investment. $200 x 3,000 = $600,000 that come out to $ 300,000 profit . Unless you back off the mark up to $150 so.. $150 @ 3,000 units comes out to $150 , 000 profit . Unless there will be in fact 3,000 ( maybe less because folks could want doubles ) collectors who will ante up $100 each we as collectors could finance our own Holy Grail. Would this be worth pursuing on Kickstarter ? __________________ Last edited by Pickelhaube; 02-27-2015 at 09:17 AM.. |

I would want at least 1 it is my favorite aricraft of all time , also the a-10 has been made before for the terminator salvation line but it was puny and not even close to scale and barely worth mentioning .

True 1:18 is just too big for me. Too big to display, too big to handle. I prefer the Joe-scale mashup of 1:18/1:32.
Good luck!

Could it really be made for $100? At $100 it would be a steal. What kind of materials are we looking at? 21st century style plastic or BBI style?

I am not sure if you posted that toy as a joke or what . That A-10 is an abomination . I am proposing a full 1/18th scale A-10 . $100 is a little low realistically . Cost will be in the $150-$200 range per unit painted in box. But that is cost then they need to be sold .I am sure e-tailers would want to make a profit rather than sell at cost. The cost price will apply to the investor who donates on Kickstarter . Last edited by Pickelhaube; 02-26-2015 at 09:48 AM.. |

Sorry to be a naysayer, but the MTF and HACKS Kickstarters only had around 1200 backers total. The market for this, given the higher price of entry, your inexperience in manufacturing, and the impracticality of being able to display a 3' X 3' aircraft -- even for people who really want one, would ensure far fewer backers than 1200. FAR fewer. Personally, I'd put the over/under at 100.
I don't mean to be harsh, but this is just way, way too premature on your part. You haven't even talked to a factory and gotten an estimate. |
