I haven't posted in a long time - and I hate to post a 'negative' post... but I need to rant for a minute. Don't attack me - I'm just really frustrated right now.
So, today my seven-year-old and I went into Toys R Us. He wants to look for some small toy he can buy himself. He's been doing chores and saving his money in his own wallet. He takes pride in buying something for himself. I give him a $10 limit. Half hour later, we are still searching for something, ANYTHING that is under $10 - and WORTH $10. GIJoes were $16 per two-pack, or $30 per three-pack. Most other action figures were the same way. He ended up with a single-pack Minecraft figure for $9.99. NO WAY was this little piece of plastic crap worth the $10. So, the question is - how have we gotten here? I hear complaining aobut how kids don't buy toys anymore - and its all because of video games. Well, how CAN kids buy toys nowadays? In our day, we could take $10 and buy three figures and a pack of baseball cards. We could build up our collections on our own. I partially blame the collectible toy market. We have demanded better and better product - and it drove up prices for years. Now, the pricepoints need to be the same - because thats what retailers demand - but the product has fallen in quality. Thoughts? I am I just getting old and crotchety? |

Not at all.. Plastic and paint quality has gone to the way side. Seems like most companies just want to make a buck, they know peeps will pay for it because that's all that's available. NECA and McFarlane seems to be actually making product worth the price tag, quality is great.

I mostly blame it on the oil market for driving the cost of nearly everything up

some of the shit sold for crazy prices is proof that there is not necessarily much connection between what it costs to produce and what they sell for. it is more about how much can they successfully gouge the customer for before they stop buying.

By the way, if you had given me a ten dollar limit, I would have bought a ball, a board or card game, poker cards, some lego pieces or all chocolate bars (yes, ALL chocolate bars) If all else failed, I would have just bought a lead pencil, an eraser and paper. Why? You can draw, on paper and make paper objects out of them and when you're done, a pencil can be erased and you can do it again. Last edited by Snakeeyesisposh; 09-29-2014 at 06:52 AM.. |

1) Higher prices on material and energy for production
2) Weaker dollar 3) Smaller economies of scale because of lower toy demand. Manufactuers and retailers have no more or less reason to seek profit than they always have.

It all comes down to this.
Stop printing money, before it's not even worth the paper it's printed on.
